About EERS 2 Live
EERS 2 Live develops enabling hardware and software for noise management, hearing protection, audio clarity, and voice intelligibility through devices that are comfortable and secure. We are experts in real-time signal processing, building applications for augmented hearing in industrial, medical, and consumer use cases.
Our biomechanical expertise allows us to map and address the complexity of the human ear canal to build novel, comfortable, usable, and manufacturable earpieces that are acoustically efficient.
The EERS team is made up of experts in audiology, acoustics, embedded software, hardware design, biomechanical engineering, industrial design, and prototype assembly—capable of working on the smallest form factors.
Job Description
Reporting to the Principal Audio R&D; Scientist, the Audio Systems Architect is responsible for driving the audio stack end-to-end, from research prototypes to implementation, integration, validation, and release on embedded platforms for EERS in-ear technologies.
This role bridges audio, mechanical, and firmware engineering. The successful candidate will work closely with audio R&D; scientists, embedded firmware developers, mechanical designers, and product stakeholders to translate DSP/ML concepts into robust, low-latency audio experiences for battery-powered, resource-constrained devices.
The Audio Systems Architect is expected to be a technical front person for the Audio Team: designing demos and experiences for leadership and clients, coordinating field trials, observing how users interact with the device, identifying pain points, and translating customer and business needs into clear engineering tasks and audio feature roadmaps.
The successful candidate must be hands-on, systems-oriented, highly collaborative, and comfortable moving between research, embedded implementation, acoustic tuning, user evaluation, and sprint execution in a dynamic product-development environment.
Responsibilities
The role will be split between team coordination and supporting audio R&D; work within the Audio Team:
- Own the audio stack across the product lifecycle, from algorithm prototyping and feasibility assessment to embedded implementation, validation, tuning, and firmware release.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to plan audio feature deliveries and inform firmware, earpiece designs:
- Work closely with Audio R&D; scientists to evaluate algorithmic tradeoffs, define acceptance criteria, and move validated solutions into the firmware development pipeline.
- Identify product and user pain points, translate customer and business needs into engineering requirements, and help prioritize audio-team work based on impact and feasibility.
- Coordinate audio feature delivery across firmware releases, including sprint planning, task breakdown, technical risk tracking, release notes, and cross-functional communication.
- Collaborate with firmware team on integration, scheduling, profiling, inter-processor communication, fixed-point considerations, debugging,
and release readiness.
- Collaborate with mechanical and biomechanical teams on earpiece prototypes, fit, acoustic leakage, transducer placement, acoustic efficiency, and manufacturability tradeoffs.
- Track, characterize, and compare audio performance across earpiece prototypes, firmware builds, acoustic configurations, transducer choices, and mechanical design iterations.
- Design compelling technical demos and user experiences for internal leadership, clients, partners, and product stakeholders.
- Summarize, document, and communicate findings, solutions, test results, tuning decisions, and implementation strategies across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Drive the end-to-end audio research, development, integration, and release of real-time audio systems:
- Plan, conduct, and document field tests, trials, and internal evaluation sessions; observe user interaction with the device and convert findings into concrete audio improvements.
- Bridge the gap between research prototypes and production firmware. Collaborate with team members to port DSP/ML algorithms into effective, verifiable, maintainable embedded implementations.
- Conduct audio tuning activities using subjective listening, objective metrics, acoustic measurements, and field feedback to improve voice pickup, audio clarity, comfort, and overall user experience.
- Conduct code reviews. Ensure research reproducibility and knowledge sharing within the Audio Team.
