General Manager — Native Tongues Taqueria
Calgary, AB | Full-time
At Native Tongues, we bring people together through Mexican food, agave spirits, and warm, genuine hospitality. We’re looking for a General Manager who takes pride in their restaurant, cares about their people, and knows how to lead a busy service from the floor.
You’ll take ownership of the restaurant’s daily operations, guest experience, team development, and financial performance, working closely with the Chef and regional leadership team.
What you’ll do
Lead from the floor
- Be present and involved during peak service, supporting the team and setting the pace.
- Guide service flow, maintain standards, and build strong communication between FOH and BOH.
- Connect with guests and handle concerns with care, confidence, and follow-through.
- Keep the restaurant clean, organized, maintained, and ready for every service.
Build a team that takes pride in its work
- Recruit, onboard, train, and develop your FOH team.
- Run meaningful pre-shifts that build confidence in our food, drinks, and service.
- Give transparent expectations, consistent feedback, and recognition.
- Address performance concerns early and follow through on commitments.
- Develop supervisors and managers, helping them become confident leaders.
- Create a culture where people feel supported and take responsibility for their work.
Own the business
- Build schedules around sales forecasts, service needs, and labour targets.
- Review sales, labour, and operating reports, turning results into practical action.
- Maintain accurate cash handling, cashouts, time approvals, and administrative records.
- Oversee FOH inventory, ordering, and cost controls.
- Find opportunities to grow sales through product knowledge, thoughtful recommendations, and repeat visits.
- Complete weekly reporting with clear observations, priorities, and next steps.
Work as one leadership team
- Partner with the Chef to deliver a consistent experience across food and service.
- Communicate proactively with regional leadership about challenges, opportunities, and support needed.
- Put company initiatives into practice and follow up to make sure they become consistent habits.
- Maintain food safety, responsible alcohol service, and workplace safety standards.
What you bring
- Experience as a General Manager or a strong Assistant General Manager ready for the next step in a busy, full-service restaurant.
- A hands-on leadership style—you’re comfortable supporting your team wherever service needs you.
- Experience with scheduling, labour management, cash controls, and restaurant financial reports.
- Strong organization and the ability to balance service demands with administrative responsibilities.
- Confidence having honest conversations and holding people accountable with respect.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to receive feedback.
- An interest in Mexican food, agave spirits, and sharing that knowledge with others.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience with Toast, Push, OpenTable, or similar restaurant systems is an asset.
What success looks like
Your team knows what’s expected, feels supported, and keeps improving. Guests feel welcomed and want to return. The restaurant is organized, standards are consistent, and you understand your numbers. When something needs attention, you take ownership and see it through.
Pay: $65,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
