Job purpose
The Electrical Engineering Technologist supports the Engineering department with electrical R&D;, product testing, instrumentation, simulation, and data acquisition for transformer bushings and insulators. The role includes developing test plans, coordinating testing activities, performing hands-on testing, tracking schedules and deliverables, and documenting results. The technologist also supports plant improvement projects involving PLC/HMI programming, sensor integration, control-system development, and cobot integration, while preparing related electrical drawings and technical documentation under engineering supervision.
Duties and responsibilities
Electrical R&D; and Testing
· Support the development and validation testing of transformer bushings, insulators, and other cast-part products.
· Develop test plans, test scopes, test matrices, and acceptance criteria under engineering supervision.
· Coordinate testing activities, sample preparation, schedules, and required deliverables.
· Perform hands-on electrical testing using appropriate test equipment, instrumentation, sensors, and data-acquisition systems.
· Record, analyze, and summarize test data, identify abnormal results, and prepare clear technical reports.
· Maintain organized test records, checklists, data sheets, and supporting documentation for internal and customer requirements.
· Support root-cause investigations and corrective actions related to test failures, product issues, or unexpected results.
· Follow applicable electrical and laboratory safety requirements during testing.
Simulation and Technical Analysis
· Support engineering simulation activities by preparing input data, running defined studies, and documenting results under supervision.
· Assist with electrical and thermal studies related to product performance and validation.
· Compare simulation results with physical test data and help identify differences or areas requiring further investigation.
· Prepare simulation reports that document inputs, assumptions, methodology, results, conclusions, and revisions.
PLC, Programming, and Data Acquisition
· Support plant improvement projects involving PLCs, HMIs, sensors, instrumentation, automated monitoring, and data logging.
· Assist with PLC/HMI programming, system configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and implementation.
· Develop and modify basic programs or scripts for data collection, equipment communication, reporting, and process monitoring.
· Integrate sensors and measurement devices for monitoring temperature, pressure, equipment status, and other process parameters.
· Collect, clean, analyze, and summarize production and test data to support engineering decisions and process improvements.
· Maintain organized backups and revision records for PLC, HMI, and related program files.
Cobot and Automation Support
· Support the programming, testing, and implementation of cobots and other automated equipment.
· Assist with sensor integration, end-of-arm tooling, operating sequences, and communication between cobots, PLCs, and plant equipment.
· Participate in equipment trials, commissioning, troubleshooting, and process validation.
· Prepare setup sheets, operating instructions, program backups, and related technical documentation.
· Support risk assessments and the development of safe operating procedures for automated equipment.
Electrical Drafting and Documentation
· Prepare and revise electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control-panel layouts, test-setup drawings, and related bills of materials using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other applicable software.
· Update drawings based on design changes, test findings, equipment modifications, and manufacturing requirements.
· Review drawings and technical documents for accuracy, consistency, and proper revision control.
· Support the preparation of test procedures, work instructions, test reports, technical proposals, and customer documentation.
Cross-Functional Support
· Work closely with Production, Quality, and Continuous Improvement teams on testing, controls, automation, and process-improvement projects.
· Support equipment installation, commissioning, production trials, and technical troubleshooting.
· Communicate project status, test results, technical issues, and required actions clearly to internal teams, customers, vendors, and equipment suppliers.
· Perform other related engineering and technical duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
· Advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology (or equivalent).
· Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in engineering support, electrical R&D;, product testing, testing coordination, or manufacturing support.
