JOB LOCATION: 165 Line 4 South, Oro-Medonte – Just 10 minutes north of Barrie

THE OPPORTUNITY:

As our Process Engineer, you’ll take a hands-on role in developing, validating, troubleshooting, and continuously improving injection-moulding processes.

You’ll work directly with moulding machines, moulds, materials, processing data, cavity-pressure information, and the people running the process to determine why something is happening and establish a robust solution.

At MPC, you’ll be surrounded by capabilities that don’t exist in every moulding operation:

- RJG in-cavity pressure sensing
- Scientific injection moulding
- Lights-out manufacturing
- Automated material handling
- Industry 4.0 predictive maintenance and data analysis
- In-house tooling design, development, and maintenance
- Advanced metrology and 3D optical scanning
- In-house virtual moulding analysis
- A multidisciplinary engineering group of more than 25 engineers and technicians

MPC performs virtual moulding analysis in-house to optimize parts and tooling before steel is cut. This Process Engineer position will work within that broader engineering environment but will not be responsible for performing Moldflow or virtual moulding analysis.

What You’ll Do: Scientific Moulding & Process Development

- Develop robust, repeatable injection-moulding processes using scientific moulding principles.
- Conduct structured process studies to understand fill, pack, hold, cooling, viscosity, and material behaviour.
- Establish process windows that define where the process will consistently produce acceptable parts.
- Use process data and controlled experimentation rather than trial-and-error processing.
- Develop and optimize machine settings, cycle parameters, and processing conditions.
- Analyze first-off parts and work with Quality to verify dimensional and functional requirements.
- Develop processes that can be reliably reproduced in production.
- Document the science and reasoning behind established processes so that knowledge is retained and transferable.

In Cavity-Pressure Sensing & Process Monitoring

MPC uses RJG in-cavity pressure sensing as part of its approach to in-process quality assurance.

You will:

- Use cavity-pressure data to understand what is happening inside the mould during the injection cycle.
- Interpret pressure curves to support process development, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Use process-monitoring information to identify shifts and variation.
- Investigate filling, packing, and process-stability issues using actual process data.
- Help establish appropriate process-monitoring limits and standards.
- Support Production and Quality in understanding and responding to abnormal processes.
- Use process information to support quality, consistency, and traceability.

Troubleshooting: Find the Cause,

Not Just the Setting

When something goes wrong, we’re looking for someone who wants to understand why.

You will:

- Lead structured troubleshooting of injection-moulding processes.
- Investigate issues such as flash, shorts, sink, warp, burns, dimensional variation, filling inconsistencies, and cycle-time concerns.
- Determine whether problems originate with the process, mould, machine, material, cooling, automation, or another source.
- Use data, observations, and controlled testing to isolate root causes.
- Develop corrective actions designed to prevent recurrence rather than simply compensate for the problem through parameter changes.
- Support production launches, mould trials, significant process changes, and difficult production issues.
- Help restore stable production while protecting safety, quality, tooling, and equipment.

New Product Launches & Validation

- Participate in new-project reviews, mould trials, process development, validation, and launches.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Tooling, Automation, Quality, and Production.
- Establish and document production-ready processes.
- Develop processing standards, process sheets, tuning instructions, and technical reports.
- Support process-flow documentation, process risk analysis, control plans, and production approval requirements.
- Participate in lessons-learned and post-launch reviews.
- Help transfer knowledge from development into everyday production.

Continuous Improvement:

A good process today can still be a better process tomorrow.

You will:

- Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, variation, downtime, and cycle time.
- Improve process capability and repeatability.
- Analyze production and quality information to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support cost-reduction and efficiency projects without compromising safety, quality, or long-term process stability.
- Help establish consistent processing practices throughout MPC.
- Share technical knowledge and help build processing capability within the organization.
- Support training and development of Process Technicians, Set-Up Technicians, and other Team Members.

What You Bring Required Qualifications

- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Plastics, Polymer Science, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical field.
- Practical injection-moulding process-development or optimization experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of:
- Injection-moulding machines
- Moulds and tooling
- Thermoplastic materials
- Material behaviour
- Process variables
- Cooling
- Auxiliary equipment
- Experience applying scientific moulding principles.
- Ability to conduct structured process studies and analyze resulting data.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause problem-solving skills.
- Ability to connect processing conditions with part quality.
- Strong documentation and technical communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Tooling, Quality, Automation, Maintenance, and Production.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality, continuous improvement, and disciplined process control.

Experience That Would Really Get Our Attention

- Hands-on experience with RJG technology or other in-cavity pressure-sensing/process-monitoring systems.

- Formal scientific moulding training.
- Experience developing processes for:
- Tight-tolerance components
- Multi-cavity moulds
- Insert moulding
- Overmoulding
- Technically complex components
- Experience with structured experimentation or design of experiments.
- Statistical process-control and capability-study experience.
- Process-validation experience.
- Experience training or mentoring Process Technicians, Set-Up Technicians, or other technical Team Members.
- Automotive or other highly controlled manufacturing experience.
- Experance with Engineered resins.
- Moldflow experience is not required for this position.
