Experienced Baker — Square 1 Coffee
Full-time, permanent | $20–$26 per hour | In person
Square 1 Coffee is looking for an experienced baker to join our team, making scratch-made baked goods for our cafés. We’re looking for someone dependable who takes pride in their work, values consistency, and enjoys working collaboratively with other bakers.
Before you apply
- At least two years of paid, hands-on commercial baking experience is required. Home baking alone does not meet this requirement.
- You must currently be legally authorized to work in Canada without employer sponsorship. We do not offer LMIA support or immigration sponsorship.
Hours and schedule
This position offers approximately 40 hours per week over five consistent working days, including weekends.
Our bakers rotate between two eight-hour shifts:
- 3 a.m.–11 a.m.
- 6 a.m.–2 p.m.
Availability for both shifts is preferred. Candidates available only for the 6 a.m. shift may also be considered. Please indicate which start times you can consistently work when applying.
Pay and benefits
- $20–$26 per hour, depending on relevant commercial baking experience and demonstrated skills.
- The higher end of the range is available to candidates with extensive scratch-baking expertise, strong production and planning skills, and the ability to support product consistency and team training.

What you’ll do
- Prepare and bake products from scratch using established recipes and production standards.
- Organize your work to complete daily production accurately and meet delivery deadlines.
- Check products for consistent taste, texture, appearance, and portion size.
- Work respectfully and collaboratively with the other bakers.
- Identify baking problems, communicate concerns, and help resolve them.
- Follow food safety procedures and maintain clean,
organized workspaces and equipment.
- Monitor ingredients, rotate stock, and communicate supply needs.
- Help train recent team members as your experience allows.
- Contribute practical ideas to improve product quality, reduce waste, and make production more efficient.
What you’ll bring
- A minimum of two years of paid commercial baking experience, including baking from scratch.
- A strong understanding of baking techniques, ingredients, recipe measurements, and production processes.
- The ability to work independently on assigned tasks while contributing to a team.
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and dependable attendance.
- The ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality.
- Willingness to give and receive constructive feedback.
- The ability to safely lift and carry ingredients and supplies weighing up to 10 kg.
- Availability for weekend shifts and holidays as scheduled.
Red Seal certification in Baking, additional commercial baking experience, and experience training other bakers are assets, but are not required.
