Job Summary

BMACTC is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to lead the design of HVAC and plumbing from concept through construction. You’ll be the main design lead on multiple projects, guide and mentor junior designers and technologists, coordinate with the other consultants on each project, and keep client relationships strong. The ideal candidate takes ownership of results, holds high standards for themselves and their team, has a proven track record of delivering projects well, and communicates naturally.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead mechanical design for HVAC and plumbing, including heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selection, duct and pipe sizing, and system layout.
- Produce and oversee AutoCAD, specifications and design reports. Set drafting and BIM standards for the team.
- Coordinate with architects, structural and electrical consultants, and contractors, including BIM model coordination and clash resolution.
- Review drawings and calculations for completeness, accuracy and code compliance at each design stage, following BMACTC’s quality management procedures.




- Mentor junior designers and technologists, assign tasks, and review their work.
- Support project managers with fee proposals, scope definition, schedules and budgets.
- Handle construction-phase services: shop drawing reviews, RFIs, site visits, field observation reports and deficiency reviews, in coordination with the architect and the senior project manager.
- Maintain existing client relationships and help develop new business.

Qualifications

- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Systems Technology, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 4+ years of mechanical building-systems design experience in a consulting engineering environment.
- Advanced skills in AutoCAD.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as the BC Building Code, BC Plumbing Code, Vancouver Building By-law, ASHRAE 62.1 / 90.1 / 55, and NFPA 13 / 14 / 20.
- Experience with load calculation and design software (e.g., HAP, Trace 3D Plus, IES VE, or similar).
- A proven record of managing several projects and clients at once on large, complex projects.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in MS Office.

Assets

- Registration as an AScT or CTech with ASTTBC, or eligibility for it.
- Experience with existing-building assessments, retrofits and fault detection.
- A valid driver’s licence for site visits.

Additional pay :

- Bonus pay

Pay: $80,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
