ABOUT SECRET FOOD TOURS
Secret Food Tours runs award-winning small-group food walking tours in more than 140 cities. Guests come to eat well, hear the stories behind the food, and see a city the way locals do. Montreal is one of the largest operations in our global network and anchors a quick-growing region across Eastern Canada and the US.
THE ROLE
You will run a multi-city region from Montreal: a team of 60+ independent tour guides, dozens of restaurant and venue partners, the food-cost budget for every tour, and a growing private and corporate group business. Two operations assistants support you, and you report to the Head of Americas Operations.
This is an operations and leadership role first. You may guide occasionally to cover a gap, check quality or train new guides, but your main job is to make the whole region run well.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Guides and scheduling
- Recruit, onboard and train guides across several cities, including shadow and test tours
- Coach guides on scripts, routes, storytelling and guest care, and keep performance notes current
- Plan guide schedules months ahead, including licensed guides for peak season
- Manage daily departures in our booking system: open, merge and close slots, cover weekends and react to capacity alerts
Restaurant and venue partners
- Build strong relationships with dozens of partners, in French in Quebec and in English elsewhere in the region
- Confirm group sizes, arrival times and dietary needs, and set up direct communication between guides and venues
- Find and negotiate new stops when a venue closes, a menu changes or a large group needs more space
Tour quality and product
- Read every guest review, spot patterns and act on them with guides and venues
- Improve existing routes and help launch new tours and cities: menus, budgets, scripts and route maps
- Keep scripts, internal records and website content accurate in French and English
Budgets and cost control
- Own the food-cost budget for every tour in the region and keep it within company standards
- Review guide reports and receipts weekly and follow up on over-budget tours
- Negotiate portions and prices with venues, and cost new menu items before they go live
Private and corporate groups
- Run the full cycle: enquiry, quote, booking setup, payment, invoice and delivery on the day
- Grow the business through inbound leads and local partnerships, without leaving public tours short of guides
- Keep deals and contacts up to date in our CRM
Team and admin
- Delegate to and develop your two operations assistants
- Stay on top of your priorities and close the loop on open items
- Work closely with finance, customer support and other regions
WHAT YOU BRING
- Fluent French and English, spoken and written
- 3+ years in hospitality, tourism, customer service or events operations, including managing a team
- Comfort with numbers: you can read a cost report, find the problem and fix it
- Sales or account management experience, or the confidence to quote and close group business
- Strong organisation: you can run several cities at once and plan months ahead
- The ability to delegate, set clear boundaries and follow things through
- Clear, warm written communication with guests, guides and restaurant owners
- Confidence with online tools. Booking systems, CRMs, Slack, WhatsApp or AI tools are a plus
- A real love of food, cities and the stories behind them
- Availability for evenings, weekends and holidays when the tour calendar needs it, plus occasional regional travel
- A degree in hospitality, tourism or business is welcome, but equivalent experience counts just as much
WHAT WE OFFER
- CA$75,000 to $90,000 base salary, plus commission on private and corporate group sales
- Hybrid schedule based in Montreal
- Paid travel allowance for regional visits
- A senior role in a fast-growing region, backed by a supportive international operations team
- Free tours in our other cities
