Role: Web and Brand Designer, E-commerce Type: Full-time, 12-month contract (independent contractor)
Location:
Remote Hours: 40 per week, overlap across EST and PST Compensation: Hourly or Flat Rate Who we are looking for The Embody Lab is looking for an experienced e-commerce designer to build the pages that sell our programs, certificates, summits and live events. Everything we sell is an experience people enrol in, so the pages that carry those enrolments do a lot of work. Our offerings open and close on a fixed calendar, and that calendar sets the pace. Most of your time sits in Shopify, designing the pages people enrol through. The rest is the design around a launch: social, email, ads and brand. You will work directly with our Shopify developer, marketing and operations. About The Embody Lab The Embody Lab is the largest global online learning platform for body-based trauma therapies. We train practitioners around the world alongside leading faculty, including Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, Dr. Peter Levine, Dr. Scott Lyons, and Dr. Arielle Schwartz. More than 100,000 wellness professionals across 37 countries have trained with us. Our work spans live workshops, on-demand courses, cohort-based certificate programs, continuing education for clinicians, summits, and a thriving membership community. We operate a direct-to-consumer (DTC) business model with a growing membership-based subscription, and we are poised to expand significantly as global demand for accessible mental health and wellness education keeps rising. Our audience includes therapists, coaches, wellness professionals, clinicians, and individuals seeking high-quality somatic education for healing and personal growth. You do not need a background in somatics, but you should care about the mission. What you'll own
• Enrolment and sales pages for programs,
certificates, summits and events, including the long form pages carrying curriculum, faculty, dates and pricing tiers
• Product pages, collection pages and homepage sections, mobile first
• The full cycle from concept to wireframe to mockup, handed to our Shopify developer in a file they can build from
• Variations for testing: headlines, hero treatments, pricing layouts
• Page structure and conversion, not only layout: what a prospective student needs to read before they commit, and what is getting in the way
• Campaign creative around each launch: social, paid ads, email headers, event and speaker graphics
• Brand consistency across channels, extended sensibly when a campaign needs something current Qualifications
• Six or more years in design, with at least four designing ecommerce storefronts and campaign pages
• A real understanding of selling online: offer pages, pricing presentation, payment plans, checkout flow, and what moves someone from reading to buying
• Hands on experience designing Shopify product pages, and a feel for what a developer can build quickly
• A portfolio of live pages you designed, with evidence that the work performed
• Figma, Photoshop and Canva, plus AI image tools already in your workflow
• Capacity for 40 hours a week, and your own equipment Nice to have
• Email design in ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo or similar
• Conversion focused design experience, including designing for tests
• Background or genuine interest in wellness, mental health, somatics or online education About you
• You take feedback well. You can hear that a page is not working, ask what is driving the note, and come back with a better version rather than a defence of the first one
• You adapt. Launch dates shift and campaigns change shape, and you adjust without needing the plan rebuilt for you
• You have strong opinions about layout and typography and can explain them, while staying open to being wrong
• You take a brief and run with it, with clean files a developer can build from
• You raise timeline problems while there is still time to solve them
• You judge your own work by whether the page performed
How to apply
Send us your portfolio in your cover letter and include your answers to these five questions below.
• Link us to a live e-commerce page you designed and tell us what it was built to do.
• Tell us about a page you redesigned and what happened to the numbers afterwards.
• Show us a piece where AI tools were part of how you made it, and tell us where your hand came in.
• What is your hourly rate, your weekly capacity right now, and when can you start?
• Tell us about a time a design of yours was not working, how you found out, and what you did next. If you are selected to move forward, the interview includes a short working session in Figma with the leadership team so we can see how you think and how you work with direction in real time. The Embody Lab welcomes applicants of all backgrounds, identities and abilities. If you need an accommodation at any point in the process, tell us and we will work it out with you.
