Lead Framing Carpenter / Site Supervisor

Con-Frame Ltd. | Toronto & GTA, Ontario

Pay: $50.00–$60.00 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated ability

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About Con-Frame Ltd.

Con-Frame Ltd. is an established structural contracting company specializing in high-quality wood framing and structural construction throughout Toronto and the GTA.

We work on technically demanding custom homes, major renovations, and complex residential projects where precision, workmanship, coordination, and accountability matter.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Framing Carpenter / Site Supervisor who takes pride in their trade, leads by example, and has the technical ability and organizational skills to run a productive framing crew.

We are not simply looking for someone who has spent many years in construction. We are looking for someone who knows what they are doing, takes ownership of their work, communicates effectively, and is motivated to continue improving.

This is an excellent opportunity for a capable carpenter who wants long-term stability, responsibility, and the potential to advance into a superintendent or senior leadership position.

The Position

This is a hands-on leadership position, not a supervisory role where you stand back and watch others work.

You will typically oversee a crew of 4–5 workers while actively participating in framing activities.

The position is approximately 60% hands-on work and 40% supervision, planning, coordination, and administration, depending on project requirements.

You will be responsible for ensuring that framing work is completed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with construction drawings and project requirements.

We expect the successful candidate to arrive with a strong technical foundation and the ability to work independently. We also recognize that no one knows everything and value people who ask questions, accept feedback, and continue learning.

Key Responsibilities

Site Leadership & Crew Management

- Lead, supervise, and work alongside a crew of framers and labourers.
- Organize daily work activities and establish clear priorities.
- Assign work according to individual abilities and project requirements.
- Ensure crew members understand their tasks, drawings, and workmanship expectations.
- Maintain a productive, respectful, and professional work environment.
- Lead by example through work ethic, attitude, and accountability.
- Coach and develop less-experienced employees.
- Identify problems early and communicate solutions proactively.

Technical Framing & Execution

- Read, interpret, and work confidently from architectural and structural drawings.
- Perform and verify layouts, elevations, dimensions, and structural details.
- Coordinate and execute floor, wall, and roof framing.
- Install and coordinate engineered wood products, LVLs, structural beams, columns, and associated framing hardware.
- Understand complex framing connections, load paths, bearing requirements, and construction sequencing.
- Identify drawing discrepancies, site conflicts, and constructability concerns before they affect production.
- Coordinate material requirements, equipment,

tools, and labour.
- Adapt to changes in design, site conditions, and construction methodology.

Quality Control & Accountability

- Personally verify critical layouts, elevations, and dimensions before work proceeds.
- Regularly inspect crew workmanship rather than waiting until work is completed.
- Use current drawings, measurements, and checklists instead of relying on assumptions or memory.
- Ensure workers understand drawings, details, and quality expectations before starting their tasks.
- Review completed framing before inspections or covering structural components.
- Identify mistakes and deficiencies early and ensure corrective work is completed properly.
- Take responsibility for the quality of the entire crew’s work, not just work completed personally.
- Maintain consistent workmanship standards and never knowingly allow defective work to proceed.

Productivity, Planning & Cost Awareness

- Plan work in advance to minimize downtime and unnecessary labour costs.
- Understand the importance of labour productivity and project budgets.
- Track progress against expected production and project schedules.
- Anticipate material, equipment, and labour requirements.
- Identify additional work, design changes, and potential extra costs.
- Communicate project delays, scope changes, and unforeseen conditions promptly.
- Make practical decisions that balance quality, safety, productivity, and cost.

Communication & Documentation

- Maintain clear and consistent communication with company management, clients, subcontractors, and crew members.
- Provide accurate daily progress updates and required site documentation.
- Use mobile applications and digital tools for time tracking, reporting, drawings, and project communication.
- Document deficiencies, additional work, and site conditions when required.
- Raise questions and concerns early rather than making unsupported assumptions.
- Follow through on commitments without requiring constant reminders.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum 5 years of relevant wood framing experience, including demonstrated supervisory or crew leadership experience.
- Strong practical experience in residential wood framing, preferably custom homes or complex residential construction.
- Ability to independently read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
- Competence in framing layout, elevations, measurements, and structural framing methods.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a crew while remaining actively involved in fieldwork.
- Strong understanding of framing sequences, structural connections, safety, quality control, and productivity.
- Comfortable using smartphones, digital drawings, and construction-related applications.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to make decisions independently while recognizing when clarification or assistance is required.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation to GTA project sites.

Experience with structural steel coordination, engineered wood framing systems, complex roof structures, and challenging renovation projects is considered an asset.

The Type of Person We’re Looking For

Technical experience is important, but attitude, judgment, and character are equally important.

Our ideal candidate:

- Is confident in their abilities without being arrogant.
- Takes responsibility for mistakes rather than blaming others.
- Welcomes constructive feedback and is willing to learn.
- Communicates clearly, professionally, and respectfully.
- Treats workers, clients, and subcontractors with respect.
- Is organized, dependable, and follows through on commitments.
- Pays close attention to details, drawings, dimensions, and workmanship.
- Takes initiative and solves problems without constant supervision.
- Understands that productivity and financial performance matter.
- Is willing to pick up the tools and work alongside the crew.
- Embraces technology, recent equipment, and improved framing methods.
- Knows their limitations and is comfortable asking questions.
- Represents the company professionally through their conduct and attitude.

We have no interest in egos, excuses, workplace drama, or individuals who overstate their technical abilities.

We value demonstrated competence, humility, accountability, and people who genuinely take pride in doing the job properly.

Compensation & Benefits

- $50.00–$60.00 per hour, depending on experience, technical ability, and leadership capabilities.
- Full-time, permanent employment.
- Employee benefits.
- Potential gas card or vehicle-related allowance, depending on the arrangement.
- Discretionary performance-based bonuses.
- Consistent work on challenging, high-quality custom residential framing projects.
- Opportunity to develop into a superintendent or senior management position.
- A professional working environment where initiative, competence, and accountability are recognized.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume outlining your relevant framing and supervisory experience.

In your application, we would particularly like to understand:

- Your experience with residential wood framing, particularly custom homes and complex structural framing.
- The size of crews you have led or supervised.
- Your ability to independently interpret structural drawings and perform framing layouts.
- The types of projects you have personally led.
- Why you believe you would be a good fit for a hands-on leadership position.

We are looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career with Con-Frame, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and is motivated to help make the entire team better.

If you take pride in your workmanship, lead by example, and believe your abilities speak louder than your job title, we encourage you to apply.
