About Us
ASAP Traffic is one of Alberta’s growing traffic management companies, with about 90 staff and yards in Fort Saskatchewan and Calgary. Utilities, municipalities, provincial agencies, and major contractors across the province count on us to keep their crews and the public safe.
We make our own traffic signs in house, and every one of them ends up on an Alberta road. As the company grows, so does the demand on our sign shop, and we’re investing in the people and equipment to keep up.
The Opportunity
This is a chance to get in at the ground level of a company that is going places. You’ll lead our sign shop and own the full process, from the first order to the finished sign on the truck. You’ll have the equipment to do it right, the trust to run it your way, and a real say in how the shop grows from here.
The work has variety, too. Alongside traffic signs, the shop designs and prints vehicle wraps, stickers, and decals, so solid design skills will get put to good use.
This is a hands on leadership role. You’ll design, build, and inspect signs yourself, direct shop helpers when the workload calls for it, and work directly with our Sales Manager. If you take pride in your craft and want your work to matter, we want to talk to you.
What You’ll Do
Orders and Design
- Receive and review orders for traffic signs, barricade panels, extruded signs, custom aluminum signs, and printed vinyl graphics
- Design sign layouts to client specs and traffic standards, send proofs, and get approval before production
- Turn client photos and logos into print ready artwork at any size, from a small sticker to a 50" x 50" print
- Plan the shop’s workload, hit deadlines,
and keep the Sales Manager updated on status and timelines
Fabrication and Assembly
- Print on our Mimaki printers and cut on our Summa cutter to produce signs to spec
- Apply Avery Dennison vinyl and reflective sheeting to aluminum blanks, extruded panels, and other substrates using our rolling table
- Print, laminate, and cut vinyl graphics, including vehicle wraps, stickers, and decals
- Operate laminators and cutting equipment, and assemble sign components including frames, posts, and hardware
Quality and Shipping
- Inspect every finished sign for accuracy and compliance with traffic signage standards
- Label and date all signs with ASAP manufacturer stickers
- Package signs for shipping or client pickup
Inventory, Equipment, and Safety
- Track finished inventory, monitor stock of blanks, vinyl, and sheeting, and order materials before you run short
- Maintain and troubleshoot printers, cutters, and shop equipment
- Complete daily FLHAs and keep the shop clean, organized, and safe
- Direct shop helpers and bring forward ideas to make production faster and better
What You Need
- Hands on sign production or fabrication experience (required)
- Strong knowledge of traffic signage: sign types, reflectivity, sizing, and where each is used
- Experience with Avery Dennison reflective sheeting and the differences between grades such as HIP and OmniCube
- Experience running wide format printers and vinyl cutters, ideally Mimaki and Summa
- Experience with extruded aluminum signage
- Solid graphic design skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop or similar, including preparing photos and artwork for large format prints
- Sharp attention to detail, because a wrong sign on the road is a safety problem, not a typo
- Able to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and do physical work all day
- Organized and self directed, able to run the shop without someone checking in
- Comfortable with inventory or ERP software (NetSuite is a bonus)
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of MUTCD Canada or Alberta Transportation sign standards
- Experience with municipal or wayfinding signage
