Take ownership of existing applications developed by external agencies and contractors, assessing their architecture and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Make architectural and implementation decisions that balance performance, maintainability, technical complexity, and business priorities.
Collaborate directly with internal stakeholders to understand operational challenges and translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
Establish pragmatic standards for software development, testing, documentation, deployment, and code quality as internal engineering capabilities grow.
At least five years of professional software development experience, including senior-level ownership of production systems.
Strong TypeScript and JavaScript skills across frontend and backend development.
Production experience with React and/or Svelte/SvelteKit.
Backend development experience with Node.js using Express, Fastify, or comparable frameworks.
Experience with PostgreSQL and modern data‑access tools such as Prisma or Drizzle.
Ability to independently take over unfamiliar codebases, diagnose complex issues, and make sound technical decisions.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain architectural choices and technical trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders.
Comfort working with high‑volume, business-critical e‑commerce and retail data.
Fluency in English for daily collaboration with teams and external partners across Canada, the United States, and Europe.
Residence in Canada and legal authorization to work in Canada are required.
Additional assets:
Familiarity with PHP and Laravel.
Experience with NetSuite SuiteScript or integrations involving other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
Experience with product information management (PIM) systems, particularly Akeneo.
Experience transitioning software development from external agencies to internal engineering teams.
Previous experience as a solo developer or embedded team member with significant technical ownership.
Automated testing experience using tools such as Vitest, Playwright, or PHPUnit.
Python scripting experience.
Familiarity with trading card games.
Salary: CAD $120,000–$145,000 annually.
Remote or hybrid, based in Canada, with Montreal as the listed location.
Flexible schedule: Flexible daily working hours within Monday-to-Friday core hours.
Health coverage: Health and dental benefits.
Retirement savings: Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with employer matching contributions.
A foundational role with substantial ownership of applications and technical direction.
A collaborative, hands‑on setting with the opportunity to establish development practices and help shape the future internal technology team.
