Software Development Engineer III, Scaling Efficiency, CloudTune

Amazon's CloudTune organization is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join the Scaling Efficiency team. CloudTune ensures that Amazon's infrastructure is right-sized at the right time, powering capacity decisions for thousands of EC2-based services across Amazon. Scaling Efficiency sits at the center of this mission, building the automation, data infrastructure, and platform services that make accurate, timely capacity decisions possible at Amazon's scale.

As a Senior SDE, you will own the design and delivery of distributed systems that serve internal customers across science, capacity management, and engineering. You will tackle hard problems in areas like large-scale data processing, workflow orchestration, infrastructure automation, and platform reliability. This is a role for a builder who wants to operate at the intersection of infrastructure and data, someone who can translate ambiguous business problems into well-architected technical solutions, ship them into production, and raise the engineering bar for the team along the way.

Own the end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of distributed systems that serve Amazon-scale workloads.

Lead technical strategy and architecture for your area, making tradeoffs between speed of delivery and long-term platform health.

Drive operational excellence across your systems, including monitoring, alarming, incident response, and on-call ownership.

Partner with scientists, data engineers, and capacity managers to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.

Identify opportunities to reduce manual toil and close automation gaps through better tooling, self-service interfaces, and data-driven guardrails.

Influence engineering culture through design reviews, code reviews, technical mentorship, and contributions to team-wide best practices.

Scaling Efficiency builds the automation and data infrastructure that powers CloudTune's capacity decisions across Amazon.

Our teams work at the intersection of infrastructure and data science, building platform services that enable accurate forecasting, automated scaling, and efficient capacity management for thousands of EC2-based services. We value ownership, operational excellence, and building systems that compound in value over time, so Amazon's engineers can focus on their customers instead of their infrastructure.
