Key responsibilities and tasks
System preparation and operation
- Prepare equipment for FAT by cleaning parts and shields, assembling basic components and preparing substrates and samples.
- Operate PVD, PECVD and etch equipment using approved procedures and under appropriate technical direction.
- Execute documented test recipes and monitor process parameters, system status and abnormal conditions.
Testing, measurement and documentation
- Perform assigned acceptance and qualification tests and record complete, traceable process data and results.
- Conduct basic metrology measurements, including film thickness, uniformity and film stress, using approved methods.
- Maintain test logs, sample identification, equipment records and documentation; flag results outside specified limits.
Troubleshooting and collaboration
- Assist Process Engineering and Manufacturing with basic equipment and process troubleshooting, retesting and corrective actions.
- Communicate testing progress, equipment concerns and readiness status to the FAT team and relevant stakeholders.
- Suggest practical improvements to test documentation, work instructions and testing workflows.
Health and safety
- Follow protected operating procedures and required training for vacuum equipment, process gases, chemicals and energized or moving machinery.
- Use required PPE and engineering controls; report hazards, incidents, near misses and unsafe equipment promptly.
Qualifications and technical capabilities
- Technical diploma in Photonics, Electronics, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Materials Science,
or a related discipline; equivalent relevant training and experience considered.
- Approximately 1–2 years of experience in thin-film deposition, semiconductor processing, vacuum technology or related technical manufacturing; comparable hands-on experience considered.
- Basic knowledge of PVD/PECVD/etch processes, vacuum and gas-delivery systems, equipment operation and process monitoring.
- Ability to follow controlled test procedures, collect accurate data and maintain technical records; familiarity with metrology equipment is an asset.
- Ability to interpret applicable work instructions and technical documentation; equipment-specific training and authorization required before independent operation.
Core competencies and professional behaviours
- Accuracy and documentation: Maintains reliable test records and careful sample traceability.
- Safety and procedural discipline: Follows instructions, uses controls and raises concerns promptly.
- Troubleshooting and learning: Observes anomalies, asks informed questions and develops equipment knowledge.
- Collaboration and accountability: Communicates clearly, follows through and works effectively with engineering and production.
- Organization and adaptability: Manages test priorities and responds constructively to changing schedules.
Working conditions and physical / safety demands
- Primarily on-site in manufacturing, testing and laboratory areas; schedule and any overtime to be confirmed.
- Work may involve standing, walking, computer/data entry, handling samples and small components, and operating equipment controls.
- Potential exposure to process gases, chemicals, vacuum equipment, electrical hazards, moving components and noise; follow applicable controls and wear designated PPE.
- Actual physical requirements, exposures and equipment authorizations must be confirmed through the role-specific risk assessment.
Authority and key working relationships
Executes approved tests and documents findings; escalates deviations and does not independently approve engineering changes or final acceptance unless specifically authorized. Works closely with Process Engineering, FAT, Manufacturing and relevant technical teams.
