The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for individuals seeking to communicate directly with the principal lawyer. Responsibilities will include calendar management, coordinating calls and client meetings, managing professional communications, overseeing administrative functions, and assisting with basic bookkeeping.

This position is particularly well suited to an individual pursuing a career in the legal profession who wishes to gain practical exposure to the operations of a litigation-focused law firm. The role offers opportunities for professional development and may lead to full-time employment as the practice grows.

Key Responsibilities

- Executive and Calendar Management: Coordinate and maintain the principal lawyer’s calendar, schedule calls and meetings, manage appointments, and ensure effective time management.

- Administrative Operations: Oversee general administrative functions, maintain organized records, coordinate appointments, and assist with the day-to-day operations of the practice.
- Basic Bookkeeping: Assist with routine bookkeeping and financial administration, including tracking expenses, maintaining payment records, and updating basic financial records as required.
- Court Attendance: Attend hearings, trials, and other in-person court appearances alongside counsel when required.

Such attendance is expected to be limited to approximately three to four appearances per month.
- Manage schedules, appointments, and meeting invitations using Microsoft Outlook Calendar.
- Prepare, format, proofread, and organize correspondence and legal documents.
- Complete data entry, filing, document tracking, and general clerical tasks with accuracy.
- Assist with electronic signatures and document workflows using DocuSign.
- Support bookkeeping and routine financial recordkeeping; QuickBooks experience is helpful.

Work Arrangements and Compensation

This is a part-time position requiring approximately 5–30 hours per week, depending on the needs of the practice. Daily in-person attendance is not required. The position will be performed primarily remotely, with in-person attendance required only on designated occasions, principally in connection with court proceedings or other appearances attended by counsel.

Transportation expenses incurred for required in-person attendance will be reimbursed, including fuel costs or public transportation expenses.

Compensation will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate:

- Completion of an undergraduate degree. Candidates on track to complete their undergraduate degree within the next 12 months will also be considered.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
- Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Reliability, initiative, and the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
- Basic numeracy and an ability to maintain accurate financial and administrative records.
- A genuine interest in the legal profession and a clear interest in pursuing a legal career.

Candidates currently pursuing legal studies,

intending to attend law school, or otherwise seeking to establish a career in the legal sector are particularly encouraged to apply.

Application Requirements

Interested applicants must submit a current CV and a written explanation outlining why they wish to enter the legal sector and why they consider the legal profession a suitable long-term career match.

Applicants should clearly articulate their professional interests, relevant experience, and reasons for seeking a position within a boutique criminal defence and litigation practice.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the firm intends to fill this position immediately.
