About Sunset Recycles & Sales Ltd.

Sunset Recycles & Sales Ltd. is a locally operated scrap metal recycling company serving Fort McMurray and the Wood Buffalo region. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Scrap Metal Yard Supervisor to oversee daily yard operations, supervise employees, maintain safety standards, and ensure efficient handling and processing of scrap metal materials.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise and coordinate daily scrap yard operations, including receiving, sorting, processing, loading, and shipping scrap metal.
- Lead, train, and support yard employees, equipment operators, laborers, and other team members.
- Assign daily tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure operational targets are met.
- Identify and sort ferrous and non-ferrous metals, ensuring materials are handled and stored appropriately.
- Coordinate the movement, loading, and unloading of scrap materials and ensure accurate weighing and documentation.
- Monitor inventory, maintain accurate records, and assist with scale tickets, bills of lading (BOLs), and shipping documentation.
- Ensure all employees follow company safety policies, wear required PPE, and complete applicable safety documentation, including FLHAs and daily inspections.
- Conduct regular yard inspections and address housekeeping issues, hazards, and unsafe working conditions.
- Coordinate equipment use and report maintenance needs, defects, and mechanical issues promptly.
- Communicate with management, customers, drivers, contractors, and other departments to support smooth operations.
- Resolve day-to-day operational issues and report incidents, near misses, and equipment damage.




- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient yard while supporting continuous improvement in safety and productivity.

Qualifications and Requirements

- Previous experience in the scrap metal recycling industry is required.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of scrap metal sorting, grading, handling, and recycling processes.
- Experience working around heavy equipment, including material handlers, excavators, loaders, grapples, and magnets, is an asset.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures and hazard identification.
- Ability to lead a team, delegate responsibilities, resolve problems, and hold employees accountable.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to complete operational records, reports, and safety documentation accurately.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and in an active industrial yard.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices, teamwork, and operational efficiency.
