About DSR Systems Inc.

DSR Systems Inc. is a 100% Canadian-owned independent mechanical consulting engineering firm founded in 2016. We deliver high-quality engineering services focused on industrial and recreational refrigeration, with supporting expertise in HVAC, boilers, controls/BAS, and building condition assessments.

Our work includes design and commissioning of ammonia refrigeration systems for ice rinks/arenas and coolers/warehouses, energy-efficient mechanical solutions, technical proposals and RFP responses for Ontario municipalities, scopes of work, and contract administration. We prioritize practical, code-compliant designs that support client success while maintaining a collaborative, professional team environment.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the design, documentation, and delivery of refrigeration and related mechanical systems. The role involves real-life technical work on industrial ammonia and related refrigeration projects (ice rinks, arenas, coolers, freezers, warehouses), HVAC systems, and supporting services such as building assessments. You will work closely with the project team on client deliverables, from concept through commissioning and closeout.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and detail ammonia (and other) refrigeration systems, including load calculations, equipment selection, piping, underfloor heating, and associated mechanical systems for ice rinks, arenas, coolers, and warehouses.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports using industry software.

- Support commissioning activities, site reviews, and performance verification.
- Contribute to proposals, technical summaries, scopes of work, and municipal RFP responses.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE, ASME B31.5, TSSA Fuels Safety, and related guidelines).
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and internal team members (mechanical, electrical, controls) on multidisciplinary projects.
- Assist with building condition assessments and related documentation for recreational and municipal facilities.
- Participate in project coordination, documentation control, and quality reviews.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or eligibility and progress toward licensure.
- Demonstrated experience in industrial or commercial refrigeration design (ammonia systems strongly preferred; ice rink/arena or cooler/warehouse experience an asset).
- Familiarity with HVAC design, energy efficiency considerations, and related mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge of relevant Ontario and Canadian codes/standards.
- Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD,

Revit preferred) and engineering calculation tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and client interaction.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small consulting team; attention to detail and practical problem-solving orientation.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel within Ontario for site visits as required.

Preferred Assets

- Experience with controls/BAS integration, boilers, or municipal/recreational facility work.
- Knowledge of natural refrigerants, energy recovery, or sustainability aspects of refrigeration systems.
- Prior consulting engineering experience or involvement in proposals and RFP responses.
- Familiarity with TSSA, ASHRAE, IIAR or related compliance topics.

What We Offer

- Opportunity to work on specialized, high-impact refrigeration and mechanical projects for industrial and recreational clients across Ontario.
- Collaborative small-firm setting with direct involvement in project delivery.
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
- Professional development support toward P.Eng.
- Location flexibility options.

How to Apply

Please submit your résumé, cover letter, and any relevant project examples through the Indeed platform. We thank all applicants; only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
