Dominion Family Dentistry — Truro, Nova Scotia
Full-time | Four-day work week | No evenings | No weekends

Dominion Family Dentistry is looking for a Registered Dental Assistant who also enjoys the patient-coordination and organizational side of dentistry to join our established team in Truro.

This is a unique hybrid position combining front-office responsibilities with clinical RDA support.

The primary focus of the position is patient scheduling and coordination, particularly helping maintain an effective and productive hygiene schedule. You will also use your RDA skills to support the clinical team when needed.

Our patients notice our team

Dominion Family Dentistry has built a strong reputation for patient care. Our patients frequently comment on the friendliness, professionalism and helpfulness of our team.

We believe that experience starts with how our team works together.

At Dominion Family Dentistry, everyone has primary responsibilities, but we do not operate with rigid boundaries between jobs.

If a teammate needs help, we help.

If the phone is ringing, we answer it.

If the schedule changes, we work together to manage it.

If something needs to be done to keep the office running smoothly, we do not ignore it because it falls outside the narrow definition of our position.

Titles define responsibilities here—not importance.

We value people who are respectful, dependable, collaborative and willing to contribute to the success of the entire team.

About the position

A major part of this role involves helping manage our hygiene schedule.

Dental schedules change frequently. Patients cancel, openings appear and priorities change throughout the day.

The successful candidate will be someone who remains organized and composed, communicates effectively with patients and coworkers, and proactively works to keep the schedule productive.

This requires good judgment, persistence, adaptability and the ability to prioritize.

- Managing recall and unscheduled-patient information
- Rebooking cancelled appointments
- Helping ensure patients leave with appropriate future appointments
- Scheduling dentist and hygiene appointments
- Communicating schedule changes to dentists, hygienists and other team members
- Answering phones and responding to patient inquiries
- Greeting and assisting patients
- Updating patient contact, insurance and medical information

- Assisting with referrals and record transfers
- Supporting patient check-in and checkout
- Maintaining accurate notes and scheduling information in Dentrix

Clinical responsibilities may include:

- Chairside assisting
- Preparing patients and treatment rooms
- Reviewing medical histories
- Taking appropriate radiographs and intraoral photographs
- Infection prevention and sterilization procedures
- Patient education and post-operative instructions
- Other duties within the RDA scope of practice

This is not primarily a chairside-assisting position,

but it allows you to continue using your clinical skills while taking on an important role in patient coordination and practice flow.

We think you'll fit well here if you are:

- Currently licensed or eligible for registration as an RDA in Nova Scotia
- Friendly and genuinely enjoy working with patients
- Highly organized
- Proactive and willing to take initiative
- Calm when priorities change
- Persistent and dependable
- Comfortable making decisions
- A strong communicator
- Comfortable using dental software
- Able to prioritize effectively
- Respectful of every member of the team
- Willing to step in when a coworker needs help
- Someone who takes satisfaction in seeing the whole office have a successful day

Dentrix experience and previous dental reception or scheduling experience are definite assets.
