Southern Sun is a new medical office opening in Burnaby. We’re looking for a friendly, organized Medical Office Assistant to help us set up and run the front desk from day one. This is a great first role for someone starting their career in healthcare administration.
Schedule
The position starts at 3 full days per week and will grow to 5 days per week (full-time) as the clinic gets busier.
What you’ll do
- Greet patients, check them in, and answer phones in a warm, professional way
- Book, confirm, and reschedule appointments
- Register new patients and keep patient records accurate and up to date in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Check BC MSP coverage and collect patient information
- Handle faxes, referrals, lab requisitions, and test results
- Help with medical billing to MSP
- Keep the front desk and waiting room clean and organized
- Order and stock office and medical supplies
- Protect patient privacy at all times, following BC privacy law
- Help with general office setup as the new clinic gets up and running
What we’re looking for
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong spoken and written English
- Good computer skills and comfort learning new software
- Organized, reliable, and able to handle several tasks at once
- Calm and kind with patients, including people who are unwell or stressed
- Able to keep information confidential
- Willing to complete a criminal record check
Nice to have (not required)
- MOA certificate or currently enrolled in an MOA program
- Experience with an EMR system or MSP billing
- Customer service or reception experience
- A second language
