DESCRIPTION:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class with advanced education and clinical training who provides comprehensive, patient-centered care across the continuum of health services. As the Most Responsible Provider (MRP), the NP-MRP carries full responsibility for autonomously assessing, diagnosing, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, initiating treatment plans, prescribing medications, and discharging patients within their legislated scope of practice. The NP-MRP holds full responsibility for coordinating and managing patients’ care, ensuring timely transitions, and facilitating appropriate follow-up.
Functioning within a framework of advanced nursing practice, the NP-MRP may collaborate with members of the interprofessional team to optimize patient outcomes through evidence-informed clinical decision-making, proactive discharge planning, and care coordination. The NP-MRP consults with physicians as appropriate (e.g. for specialist care or
