Successful applicants to this posting will be required to be available to accept casual assignments across the Division and be available any time during the day or evening. A Casual Caretaker is a detail-oriented individual who is focused on the cleanliness of the school/location, including internal and external areas. Ensuring the premises are clean, tidy and prepared for the students, staff and general public is essential. Casual Caretakers may: Report to the Supervisor of Environmental Services. Work independently and as part of the school community. May use an auto-scrubber. Removing and replacing furniture from classrooms in order to do cleaning. Completing security checks on the building's exterior doors and windows. Removing snow from all perimeter sidewalks and entry areas using shovels, brooms, or powered snow removal equipment. Conducting perimeter checks to ensure the exterior building site and playground area are secure and vandal‐free on a daily basis. Additional seasonal cleaning and rotational duties include the following: Cleaning windows inside and out. Scrubbing walls, cleaning grout for ceramic tile and ceilings in some areas. Moving furniture to prepare for floor cleaning. Ability to work flexible hours/schedule during holiday periods and annual cleaning schedules. Ability to plan and prioritize work for self and seek help when needed. Provide support when necessary to Head Caretaker to prepare for summer cleaning schedule. Will also be responsible for snow removal in the winter.



Help with the relocation of furniture and equipment as requested by the Principal and Head Caretaker, as needed Knowledgeable in PSDs safety procedures and training to carry out the assigned duties safely Report any near misses or accidents immediately to the Supervisor of Environmental Services Able to identify any hazards involved in the assigned task, detail the controls that must be put in place, and articulate the specific practices to be followed to minimize the possibility of accidents and injury Monitoring the physical condition of equipment, tools and machinery and taking necessary precautions to correct as needed Working Alone Interactions with management, colleagues, students and the public in a school setting. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) High School Diploma WHMIS Certificate an asset First Aid/CPR Certificate an asset Building Service Work Certificate an asset Experience with Microsoft Word, email, and Internet computer applications is required The ability to deal with the emotional and mental stress of working around children/group of children/school setting. A Casual Caretaker is responsible for making decisions directly relating to the tasks of their position and under the guidance of the Head Caretaker. Safety of students, staff and the general public is always required when completing tasks within the school environment. Works efficiently to prioritize workload and adapts to shifting workloads when necessary. A Casual Caretaker will be required to routinely lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. Ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Working Alone Ability to work in various indoor and outdoor weather conditions A Casual Caretaker must agree to respect the confidentiality and personal integrity of students, parents, teachers, and other staff.
