This is an onsite, in-office, 5-days/week role.

We’re hiring a senior backend engineer to build and ship AI-powered features for a consumer iOS application. This is a product-minded engineering role: you’ll turn ambiguous product ideas into reliable backend systems, ship quickly, and iterate based on real user feedback.

You’ll work deeply with

- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services and cloud infrastructure
- PostgreSQL for database design, optimization, and data management
- TypeScript and Node.js for backend services and APIs
- Terraform for infrastructure as code
- LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini)

We’re looking for someone who takes immediate ownership, communicates clearly, collaborates with energy, and genuinely loves building.

What You’ll Do

You’ll own backend delivery end-to-end for AI features, from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and iteration. You'll build and deploy reliable, production-grade backend services using TypeScript, Node.js, and GCP, with a strong focus on performance, scalability, latency, retries, idempotency, and robust error handling.

You’ll design, manage, and evolve cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform, using Terraform to provision and maintain infrastructure as code. You'll make thoughtful architectural decisions around reliability, security, observability, and cost efficiency.

You’ll integrate with OpenAI, Claude, and Gemini using multi-provider routing and fallbacks, structured outputs and tool-calling patterns when needed, streaming responses when the UX calls for it, and strong cost/latency controls like timeouts, rate limits, and caching.





You’ll design and evolve PostgreSQL schemas, queries, indexes, and migrations to support evolving product requirements. You'll implement secure authentication and data access, enforce permissions at the application and database layers, and ensure sensitive data and service credentials are handled securely.

You’ll improve developer ergonomics by delivering reliable, well-documented, iOS-friendly APIs, clear payload contracts, and practical testing workflows (Postman/curl plus automated tests).

Finally, you’ll be a force multiplier. That means jumping into calls or huddles to unblock iOS and product teammates, communicating tradeoffs and decisions succinctly, and bringing collaborative charisma.

You’re comfortable owning backend systems end-to-end, from writing application code to managing cloud infrastructure and debugging production issues. You can move between API design, databases, infrastructure, and AI integrations without needing someone to spell out every step.
