Position Overview

Varis Mine Technology Ltd. (a part of the Becker Mining Systems Group of Companies) is currently searching for a Certification Engineer to lead the certification and regulatory compliance of our communications, tracking, environmental monitoring, and remote blasting interface products used in underground mining.

Working closely with the engineering, quality, and production teams, this role is responsible for making sure our products meet Canadian and international safety, hazardous-location, EMC, and radio standards, and for managing each certification through to approval. A solid understanding of certification standards for equipment used in explosive atmospheres is vital for success in this role. Essential Job Functions

- Manage product certification projects from early design review through final approval, covering hazardous-location, electrical safety, EMC, and radio requirements.
- Interpret standards such as CSA C22.2, IEC/CSA 60079, IECEx, ATEX, MSHA, ISED, and FCC, and determine which apply to each product and target market.
- Review schematics, PCB layouts, enclosures, and component selections with design engineers to confirm compliance before prototypes are built, including intrinsic safety creepage, clearance,



and component ratings.
- Prepare and maintain technical files, certification dossiers, and applications for submission to certification bodies and test laboratories.
- Coordinate with external test laboratories and certification bodies on quotes, schedules, testing, and audit findings.
- Perform or witness pre-compliance testing, such as EMC emissions and immunity, temperature rise, and dielectric strength testing.
- Track changes to products and standards, assess their impact on existing certifications, and manage re-certifications and variations.
- Support certification body factory audits and quality system requirements, such as IECEx QAR and ISO 9001, in partnership with the Quality department.
- Maintain the company certification register and product markings and labels, and provide compliance guidance to sales, production, and service teams.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Electromechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in product certification, compliance, or regulatory engineering for electrical or electronic products.
- Working knowledge of hazardous-location and intrinsic safety standards, such as the IEC 60079 series and CSA C22.2.




- Experience certifying equipment for mining or other hazardous industries is an asset.
- P.Eng. or EIT with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is an asset.
- Fluent in English or French; other languages are an asset.
- Above-average computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read schematics, PCB layouts, and mechanical drawings.
- Solid attention to detail and technical writing skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to test laboratories and customer sites.

Pay: $80,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
