Construction Layout / Survey Technician

Full time | Hourly wage: $30 - $35, based on experience

Highroad Excavating Ltd. is looking for a Construction Layout / Survey Technician to join our growing civil construction team.

If you have surveying or construction layout experience and want to develop your skills in civil construction, we would like to hear from you. We welcome applicants from concrete layout, building construction and other surveying backgrounds. Civil construction experience is an asset, but is not required.

We’re looking for someone who is accurate, dependable and willing to learn. We will provide training and support to help the right person become familiar with our projects, equipment and processes.

The Role

You will work with our Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen and field crews on excavation, underground utility, roadwork and site servicing projects throughout the Lower Mainland.

Your responsibilities will develop with your experience and training, and will include:

- Providing construction layout for excavation, underground utilities and site grading.
- Establishing and checking grades, elevations, offsets and control points.
- Using survey equipment to support accurate construction.
- Reading construction drawings and confirming layout requirements with the project team.
- Completing grade checks and recording installed locations and elevations.
- Collecting as-built information and maintaining accurate field records.




- Identifying discrepancies and bringing questions or potential conflicts to the team.
- Supporting survey and layout needs across different job sites.

What You Bring
- Previous surveying or construction layout experience in civil, concrete, building construction or a related field.
- Experience using GPS and/or total station survey equipment.
- A working understanding of measurements, grades, elevations and offsets.
- Ability to read construction drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to ask questions and learn.
- Good communication, organization and practical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work outdoors and travel between Lower Mainland job sites.
- A valid BC driver’s licence.

Experience with underground utilities, excavation, road construction, survey software or machine-control files is welcome, but not essential.
