LUMI is a Calgary solar company. We’ve put panels, batteries and EV chargers on homes across Alberta, and we help homeowners through CEIP financing in multiple municipalities. A lot of those customers are now asking us about heat pumps, so we’re adding heat pumps to what we install.
You’d be our first heat pump technician. That means you’d do the work and help decide how we do it: equipment choices, install standards, how we size systems for Alberta winters. If you’ve wanted a say in how a division gets built, this is that job.
What you’ll do
- Install cold-climate air-source heat pumps, ducted and ductless, in Calgary-area homes
- Set up dual-fuel systems with existing gas furnaces, including controls and changeover settings
- Do load calculations and system sizing before quotes go out
- Commission each system and walk homeowners through how to run it in a -30°C cold snap
- Handle service calls and warranty work on systems we install
- Make sure installs meet code and permit requirements
- Give our sales team straight answers on what a home can and can’t support
What you bring
- Alberta or Red Seal journeyperson ticket: Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (or 4th-year apprentice close to writing)
- Refrigerant handling (ODS) certification
- Gasfitter ticket, or willingness to get one (big plus for dual-fuel work)
- Hands-on experience installing heat pumps in a cold climate
- Valid Class 5 licence and a clean abstract
- Comfortable in a homeowner’s living room as well as their crawl space
Nice to have
- Experience with ductwork modifications or electrical panel assessments
- Solar experience (we’ll teach you if not)
What we offer
- $35–$45/hour based on tickets and experience, plus overtime
- Room to grow into a lead role as the heat pump team grows
- A steady lead pipeline: our existing solar customers are already asking
