Having received the Parity Certification from La Gouvernance au Féminin, Polytechnique offers excellent working conditions, with a strong emphasis on work-life balance and employee well-being.

Polytechnique Montréal is seeking to fill a faculty position in Nuclear Engineering, accompanied by a chair supported by external partners. The desired candidate possesses a strong background in nuclear engineering, strengthens the institution’s impact in this field and can represent Polytechnique in its efforts to consolidate research and teaching activities in nuclear engineering. Upon appointment, the candidate will establish or continue an internationally recognized research program in an area relevant to nuclear engineering. The primary area of interest is nuclear energy, including small modular reactors (SMRs). Other areas of interest include statistical mechanics, thermal-hydraulics, biomedical engineering, nuclear safety, radiation protection, nuclear analysis techniques, waste management, infrastructure decommissioning, and related fields. The selected candidate will develop a course offering in nuclear engineering and contribute to teaching activities alongside both current and future faculty members. This person will also contribute to public education on issues related to nuclear technologies. In addition, this person will establish external collaborations and partnerships to strengthen Polytechnique Montréal’s position as a key player in the field at the provincial, national, and international levels.

The position includes annual funding of $100,000 per year for five years, intended to serve as leverage for securing additional research funding. The selected candidate will support Polytechnique Montréal in its efforts to secure additional faculty positions in nuclear engineering, as well as funding for additional co-financed research initiatives.

This person will work closely with Polytechnique’s nuclear engineering community, which spans several departments, particularly Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Physics.

Polytechnique Montréal has a long-standing tradition of contributions to nuclear engineering through members of its Institute of Nuclear Engineering. Notable achievements include the open-source DRAGON code for solving the neutron transport equation and DONJON for reactor core calculations, both of which have been adopted by numerous reactor designers and operators. For the past fifty years, Polytechnique has also operated a SLOWPOKE-2 nuclear reactor for neutron activation analysis.

The selected candidate will join the Department of Engineering Physics, which is recognized for the quality of its teaching and research activities, primarily in the fields of optics and photonics, advanced materials and devices, biomedical engineering, and nuclear and energy engineering. The department is responsible for an undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) program in Engineering Physics, as well as graduate programs in Engineering Physics, Materials Engineering, and Energy Engineering.

The department includes 23 faculty members and teaching professors, approximately 270 undergraduate students, and 130 graduate students. It is renowned for the quality and scale of its experimental and computational research facilities. Its faculty members actively participate in major research and innovation networks.
