Filmgear Production Services
Vancouver
Do you love working with cameras, lenses, lighting and grip, and enjoy helping other filmmakers find the right setup? If you have sales experience and hands-on gear knowledge, we'd love to hear from you.
Filmgear Canada is a video and photo gear store at 108-950 Powell Street, Vancouver. We carry lighting, grip, camera support, lenses and accessories from brands including Aputure, amaran, Nanlite, DJI, DZOFILM, Tilta and SmallRig. Our customers include independent filmmakers, photographers, wedding and event shooters, schools and production companies. We serve customers in person and online across Canada.
We're looking for someone who can understand what a customer is trying to achieve, recommend equipment that fits their needs and budget, and follow through from the first conversation to the completed sale. We're a small, hands-on team, so you'll also help with the day-to-day work that keeps orders moving and the store running smoothly.
What you will do
- Help customers in person, by phone and by email choose the right cameras, lenses, lighting and grip for their projects, budgets and existing equipment.
- Demonstrate products, explain practical differences between options, and put together compatible kits with the right accessories.
- Prepare accurate quotes, answer questions, follow up on enquiries and help customers move forward with their purchases.
- See orders through to payment and delivery. Track special orders and backorders, and keep customers updated before they have to ask.
- Build relationships with customers so they feel comfortable coming back for advice and their next purchase.
- Help receive and check inventory, pack and ship online orders, and keep demo equipment, displays and price tags in order.
- Help open and close the store,
contribute to product photos and short videos for Filmgear's social media, and invite happy customers to leave a Google review.
What we are looking for
- Sales experience and a genuine interest in helping customers make informed buying decisions. Experience selling film, camera, lens or lighting equipment is a strong plus.
- Hands-on experience with lighting, grip, cameras and lenses. You've used the equipment yourself and can explain how it works in practice, whether through shoots, product demonstrations or other practical experience.
- A genuine enthusiasm for filmmaking or photography equipment, and enjoyment in helping other filmmakers find a setup that works for them.
- Good spoken and written English. You'll speak with customers in person and on the phone, and write emails and quotes every day.
- Carefulness, reliability and follow-through. You check compatibility and order details, do what you say you'll do, and leave clear notes for the rest of the team.
- An active presence on social media, where you enjoy sharing your filmmaking, photography or gear knowledge.
- Availability to work five days per week, scheduled between Monday and Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Ability to lift 23 kg (50 lb) and work on your feet for much of the day.
Nice to have
- A portfolio or public Instagram, YouTube or TikTok account where you share your work or talk about gear. Follower count does not matter to us.
- Experience with Shopify,
a POS system or other e-commerce platforms.
- Experience at a camera store or rental house, or preparing quotes for business customers.
- A valid BC driver's licence.
Pay and schedule
- CAD $25–$30 per hour, based on experience, plus commission on sales.
- Full time, permanent and in person at our Vancouver store.
- Five shifts per week, scheduled between Monday and Saturday. Each 9:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. shift is paid as eight hours, for a total of 40 paid hours per week.
- Opportunities to take on more responsibility based on performance.
- Start date: as soon as possible, ideally in early November. Please tell us your earliest available start date.
How to apply Apply through this posting with your resume and a few lines about:
- The equipment you know best and a specific example of how you've used it.

You're welcome to include a portfolio or public social media link that shows your work or interest in gear. We review applications as they come in. Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
