Welder / Fabricator (CWB Structural & TSSA Pressure Pipe)

We are presently seeking a highly skilled and multi-certified Welder / Fabricator to join our production team at Napier-Reid. In this dual-discipline role, the candidate will perform structural fabrication on carbon steel structures and high-integrity pressure welding on stainless steel pipe systems.

Beyond everyday production, the selected candidate will serve as a key technical anchor, helping our organization maintain its CSA W47.1 certification and comply with TSSA (Technical Standards and Safety Authority) quality control programs. Responsibilities include executing code-compliant welds, maintaining strict documentation tracking, and ensuring our shop remains fully prepared for external regulatory audits.

Key Responsibilities

Structural & Pressure Pipe Welding Execution

- Carbon Steel Structures: Weld and fabricate heavy structural frameworks, sub-assemblies, and brackets in accordance with technical drawings using GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux-Core), and SMAW (Stick) processes.
- Stainless Steel Piping: Execute high-precision GTAW (TIG) and combination welds on stainless steel pressure piping systems. Ensure full root penetration, proper purging, and defect-free finishes capable of passing volumetric NDT (X-ray / Ultrasound) testing.
- Fitting & Blueprint Reading: Read and accurately interpret complex blueprints, isometric drawings, spool sheets, and advanced AWS/ISO welding symbols. Layout, fit, and tack assemblies to exacting tolerances.

CWB W47.1 Quality Control Support

- Procedure Adherence:

Execute all structural steel welds precisely to the company’s registered Welding Procedure Data Sheets (WPDS) under CSA W59.
- Audit Readiness: Assist the Quality Control team or Welding Supervisor in maintaining material trace logs, tagging structural components, and tracking welder performance to support seamless CWB bi-annual audits.
- CWB Ticket Continuity: Maintain personal CWB credentials in good standing (undergoing mandated check-testing every 2 years) and set a standard for weld quality across the shop floor.

TSSA & ASME Code Compliance

- Pressure Piping Quality: Perform pressure piping work strictly in accordance with ASME B31.1 (Power Piping) and ASME B31.3 (Process Piping) specifications.
- WPS Compliance: Follow registered employer Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), closely monitoring key variables like preheat, gas flow, and shielding.
- Inspection Cooperation: Collaborate with third-party Quality Control inspectors and TSSA Inspectors during mandated visual, hydrostatic, or pneumatic testing phases. Maintain an active, verifiable TSSA Welder Continuity Log.

Material Handling & Shop Safety

- Material Movement: Safely transport structural steel beams, pipe spools, and heavy raw materials around the fabrication floor.
- Equipment Operation: Willingness to undergo training and operate material handling equipment (such as counterbalance or reach forklifts) to safely load and unload fabrication stations.

Requirements

- Valid CWB Ticket under CSA W47.1 (Multi-position structural carbon steel).
- Current TSSA Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) Certificate for stainless steel pipe, preferably in the 6G position using the GTAW (TIG) process under ASME Section IX.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb, bend,

and work comfortably in tight fabrication spaces or multi-position orientations.
- Maintain strict compliance with all PPE regulations, ambient air monitoring, shade lens requirements, and plant safety directives.

Qualifications & Skills

- 3+ years of professional experience executing code-level structural and pressure pipe welding in an industrial fabrication setting.
- Previous experience with or an openness to being trained and certified on a Forklift to assist with moving raw materials and finished products safely.
- Comprehensive understanding of weld shrinkage control, structural geometry, purging procedures for stainless steel, and metallurgical differences between carbon and stainless steel.
- Working familiarity with the organizational demands of CSA W47.1 and TSSA Quality Control Manuals.
- Provincial Journeyman or Red Seal Welder / Fabricator designation is highly preferred.

Competitive salary and compensation including benefits and retirement plans are available. If you’re someone who’s looking for an opportunity to contribute and excel in a collaborative working environment, then this may be the role for you. The successful candidate will be an integral team member to a growing and dynamic engineering team and will thrive in a collaborative, quick-paced and inclusive environment using the latest technology. Napier-Reid provides an opportunity for driven individuals to grow their technical and professional skill sets in a workplace that values family.

Please apply with a cover letter and resume indicating the job title in the subject line.
