Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Family Lawyer role located in Thorold, ON. The Family Lawyer will manage a caseload involving matters such as separation, divorce, parenting time and decision-making responsibility, child and spousal support, property division, and domestic contracts. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, providing legal advice, drafting pleadings and agreements, preparing financial statements, and reviewing disclosure. The role involves appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice, participating in negotiations, mediations, and settlement conferences, and working with opposing counsel and third-party professionals. The Family Lawyer will also maintain detailed file records, stay current with changes in family law and court procedures, and contribute to internal process improvements and client service initiatives.

Qualifications





- Licensed lawyer in valuable standing with the Law Society of Ontario, with demonstrated experience or solid interest in family law.
- Proficiency in client counseling, negotiation, and advocacy, including the ability to manage sensitive and emotionally complex situations with professionalism and empathy.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and writing abilities for drafting pleadings, agreements, legal opinions, and court documents.
- Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple files, meet court and filing deadlines, and work effectively in a busy practice environment.
- Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with in-person client meetings and court appearances.
- Familiarity with Ontario family law statutes, rules of court, and local practice directions; prior courtroom experience in family matters is an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff, while maintaining a high level of independence and accountability for files.
- Proficiency with law office technology, including case management software, document management tools, and standard office applications.
- Commitment to ethical practice, continuous learning, and providing inclusive, non-discriminatory legal services to diverse clients.
- Experience in settlement-oriented processes such as mediation, collaborative family law, or alternative dispute resolution is considered an advantage.
