About the Role

Our client, a leading diversified mining group with extensive operations in the Northern Cape, is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Legal Officer to join their corporate legal team. This hybrid position offers the flexibility to work remotely on certain days, while requiring essential on-site presence at our Kimberley offices for critical meetings and cooperative work. You will provide essential legal support related to mining law, environmental regulations, and contractual matters pertinent to the mining industry. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of mining legislation, environmental impact assessments, and the ability to manage legal compliance in a demanding sector. This role is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional looking to specialize in the resources sector and contribute to the responsible operation of a major mining entity. You will work closely with operational teams, environmental managers, and senior legal counsel.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist in ensuring compliance with mining legislation, environmental laws, and other regulatory requirements relevant to the mining sector in South Africa.
- Review and provide legal input on mining contracts, exploration agreements, and joint venture agreements.
- Support the legal team in managing environmental compliance, including permits, licenses, and impact assessments.
- Conduct legal research on matters related to mining law, land rights, and resource management.
- Assist in managing legal disputes and litigation arising from mining operations.




- Review and advise on procurement contracts and service level agreements with third-party suppliers.
- Maintain accurate legal records and documentation related to mining licenses and permits.
- Liaise with government regulatory bodies and stakeholders on legal and compliance matters.
- Assist in the development and implementation of legal policies and procedures for the mining operations.
- Provide general legal support to various departments as required.

Requirements

- Admitted as an Attorney or Advocate in South Africa.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of post-qualification legal experience, preferably with exposure to mining law, natural resources law, or environmental law.
- Sound knowledge of South African mining legislation and regulations is essential.
- Familiarity with environmental law and permitting processes.
- Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage tasks effectively in a hybrid work environment, demonstrating self-management and organization.
- Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical and operational teams.
- Must be available to attend the office in Kimberley as required.
