About the Role

Key Responsibilities

- Underwrite complex Automobile and Household insurance risks, assessing exposures and determining terms, conditions, and pricing.
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies to achieve profitable growth within the personal lines portfolio.
- Manage and build relationships with personal lines brokers and agents in the Kimberley area.
- Monitor the performance of the personal lines book, identifying trends and recommending adjustments.




- Provide technical underwriting guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
- Collaborate with the claims department to share insights on risk trends and loss prevention.
- Stay informed about market developments, competitor activities, and emerging risks in personal insurance.
- Contribute to the refinement of underwriting tools and processes for personal lines.
- Approve policy renewals and endorsements within designated authority levels.

Requirements

- A minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience, with a significant focus on Personal Lines (Automobile and Household).
- Solid understanding of insurance products, policy wordings, and risk assessment techniques for individuals.
- Proven ability to analyze risk data and make sound underwriting decisions.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive broker relationships.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Relevant insurance qualifications or certifications (e.g., CIU, IIU) are highly regarded.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Knowledge of the insurance market in the Northern Cape is a plus.
