Perfect role for a mid qualified looking to grow their Property & Construction career in Oxford.
Oxford's building sector doesn't stand still. Between university developments, life sciences facilities and the steady push for new housing across the county, demand for people who can actually run a site from paper to practical completion has rarely been higher. This particular business is a startup, small enough that you'll know everyone's name, ambitious enough that it's already competing for serious contracts. They need a Project Manager (Construction) who wants real ownership, not just a seat at the table.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Running construction projects from pre-start through to handover, keeping programme, budget and quality all moving together
- Coordinating architects, subcontractors and suppliers so nothing stalls waiting on someone else's decision
- Chairing site meetings and writing them up properly, so decisions don't get lost or re-argued a fortnight later
- Tracking costs against budget weekly and flagging variances before they become a problem
- Managing health and safety compliance on site, including RAMS review and CDM obligations
- Reporting progress directly to the founders, with the freedom to shape how projects get delivered
Here are the skills you’ll need:
- A few years' experience managing construction projects,
ideally within Property & Construction rather than an adjacent field
- Working knowledge of JCT contracts and CDM regulations
- Comfortable reading drawings and specifications without needing everything explained twice
- Confident managing subcontractors and suppliers, including the awkward conversations
- Organised under pressure. Deadlines slip in construction; good PMs catch it early
- SMSTS or equivalent site safety qualification preferred
Key perks and benefits:
- £40,000 to £57,000, depending on experience
- Equity in a growing business, not just a payslip
- Flexible working hours around site and office demands
- Learning and development budget for courses, tickets or professional membership
- Based in the office in Oxford, working alongside a small, hands-on team rather than remotely
Why pursue a career in Property & Construction?
Construction rewards people who can hold a dozen moving parts in their head and still hit a deadline. Oxford's mix of heritage buildings, university expansion and new residential schemes means the work rarely repeats itself, and a good Project Manager (Construction) becomes indispensable fast. Progress here isn't theoretical. It's a director title, or your own patch of projects, within a few years of proving you can deliver.
