Lead underground geomechanics for WSP on deep, high-stress and mass-mining projects, using numerical modelling and rock mass characterization expertise. International travel may be required.
As a Principal Rock Mechanics Engineer, you will provide senior technical leadership across studies, design and operating-mine support. Your work will address ground support, mining-induced seismicity and complex underground conditions. You will integrate geotechnical recommendations with mine layouts, infrastructure, sequencing and operational decisions. You will also mentor engineers and geoscientists while strengthening technical practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead underground rock mechanics and geotechnical studies
- Develop criteria for excavations, infrastructure and production areas
- Direct numerical modelling of stability,
stresses and ground response
- Assess rockbursts, seismicity, spalling and squeezing conditions
- Guide support systems, monitoring and ground control plans
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline
- Significant underground mining rock mechanics experience
- Expertise in deep, high-stress environments and ground support
- Advanced FLAC3D or equivalent modelling capability
- Ability to lead assignments and communicate geotechnical risk
Bring technical leadership, practical judgment and numerical modelling expertise to WSP's complex underground mining projects worldwide.
