Description

As a member of our interprofessional Withdrawal Management Services team, the Human Services Counsellor plays an significant role in supporting people who use drugs and/or alcohol who have expressed interest in temporarily abstaining from using and are seeking residential withdrawal management services.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Developstherapeutic relationships withpeople who use drugs and/or alcohol who have a goal to withdraw safely from substances
- Completes new client intakes, program transfers and discharges




- Maintains therapeutic milieu for residential WMS clients throughout their stay in the program
- Completes assessments ofmental status, suicide risk and substance use
- Monitors clients forsigns and symptoms of overdose, intoxication and withdrawal
- Develops collaborative care plans with community services and supports
- Engages in treatment planning activities including making inquiries about available community resources, completing referral forms, rmonitoring service delivery
- Providing individual motivational interviewing counselling and psychoeducation around substance use
- Co-facilitating evidence-informed group interventions including seeking safety,
