Software Engineer - Agent Development
We have an opportunity for a Software Engineer to join our Engineering team in Burnaby, reporting to the Engineering Manager. In this role, you will help design, build, and improve agentic systems that support intelligent software development and data engineering workflows. You will contribute to coding-agent experiences, reliable agent execution, and tools that help engineers work more effectively with AI.
Collaborating closely with software engineers, data engineers, architects, product managers, and security partners, you will develop practical solutions that connect large language models, developer tools, data platforms, and governed engineering processes. This is an opportunity to grow your expertise in AI-assisted development while helping Infoblox deliver secure, scalable, and dependable cloud-first networking and security solutions.
Be a Contributor — What you’ll do:
- Design, implement, and test software components for agentic systems, coding-agent workflows, and AI-assisted engineering experiences
- Build integrations with developer tools, source-control systems, issue-tracking platforms, APIs, and data services
- Develop prompts, tools, workflows, and evaluation harnesses that help agents plan, implement, test, and document software changes
- Apply software engineering fundamentals to produce maintainable, observable, secure, and well-tested code
- Create unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for agent behavior, tool use, data flows, and failure scenarios
- Evaluate agent outputs for correctness, reliability, security, and alignment with defined acceptance criteria
- Improve agent context, retrieval, feedback, and orchestration mechanisms to increase accuracy and reduce unnecessary model or tool usage
- Use AI coding assistants and coding agents to accelerate development while reviewing, validating, and taking responsibility for generated output
- Contribute to our AI‑SDLC (AI‑driven software development lifecycle) initiatives by building agent‑assisted workflows across planning, coding, testing, code review, and delivery, with clear human checkpoints and governance
- Collaborate with cross‑functional partners to investigate defects, analyze root causes, and deliver effective solutions
- Document technical designs, operational procedures, agent behaviors, and lessons learned
Be Prepared — What You Bring:
- 2+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience is welcome
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Go, Java, or TypeScript
- Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, APIs, testing, debugging, and version control
- Experience developing services, automation, integrations, or developer tools in a collaborative engineering environment
- Hands‑on experience with data engineering fundamentals, including building and maintaining data pipelines (ETL/ELT), batch and streaming processing, and data modeling
- Proficiency with SQL and familiarity with contemporary data platforms such as data warehouses or lakehouses, workflow orchestration tools, and data quality and observability practices
- Familiarity with large language models, prompt design, retrieval‑augmented generation, tool calling, or agentic workflows
- Comfort working with AI coding assistants
