Banyan Software is the best permanent home for software businesses that serve specialized industries, their employees, and their customers. With a buy-grow-and-hold-for-life approach and a permanent capital base, Banyan acquires and grows companies worldwide, honoring founder legacies and helping portfolio companies modernize through shared AI expertise and operational discipline. Founded in 2016, Banyan operates more than 120 portfolio companies across North and South America, Europe, and APAC, and has appeared on the Inc. 5000 list for six consecutive years. The Banyan Software Foundation, endowed with $100 million in Banyan stock, leverages technology to build a greener and more equitable world. The Enterprise Architect is a senior technology leader responsible for defining and evolving the enterprise architecture of Banyan HQ. You will own the current-state and target-state architecture for our corporate technology stack, and build the roadmaps, standards, and integration patterns that let a fast-growing, acquisition-driven organization scale without accumulating complexity. We are building an AI-native enterprise: one where AI is not bolted on after the fact, but designed into our systems, data, workflows, and infrastructure from the start. This role is central to that ambition. It combines hands-on architecture leadership across identity, collaboration, business systems, and data platforms with ownership of the AI infrastructure and architectural foundations that make intelligent, agent-ready systems possible across HQ.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture Strategy & Roadmaps: Define and maintain current-state and target-state architecture for HQ systems, and build transition roadmaps that align technology investment with business goals.
- Standards & Governance: Establish architecture principles, reference patterns,
and technology standards. Run a lightweight review process that guides decisions without slowing teams down.
- Integration Architecture: Design and govern integrations across our core stack (Microsoft 365 and collaboration suites, Okta, NetSuite, Salesforce, Slack, Zoom, and related SaaS platforms), ensuring reliable data flow and clean system boundaries.
- Security & Zero-Trust Partnership: Work closely with the Director, Security to achieve our zero-trust network vision and architect the platforms that support it, including MDM, Zscaler VPN/ZTNA, and endpoint security, embedding our cloud-first, zero-trust, no-footprint principles into every architectural decision.
- AI-Native by Design: Make “AI-native” a standing architectural principle. Every current system, integration, and platform decision is evaluated for how well it exposes data, APIs, and workflows to AI and agentic tooling, not just how it serves human users.
- AI Infrastructure: Own the architecture of the infrastructure that supports enterprise AI adoption: model and API access (including platforms such as Anthropic's Claude), MCP and connector ecosystems, orchestration and automation layers, and the identity, logging, and cost controls that surround them.
- Data Foundations for AI: Collaborate closely with our Lead AI Architect on the design and evolution of our Consolidated Data Platforms, architecting the data layer that AI depends on:
clean systems of record, well-defined data contracts, retrieval-ready knowledge sources, and permission-aware access so AI tools only see what their users should.
- Agent-Ready Workflows: Design business processes and system integrations so they can be safely executed or assisted by AI agents, with clear human-in-the-loop checkpoints, auditability, and rollback paths.
- AI Governance & Guardrails: Partner with Security and Legal to define the guardrails for enterprise AI use: data classification, acceptable use, vendor and model evaluation, and monitoring. Enable adoption confidently rather than restricting it by default.
- Enablement & Measurement: Support Banyan's AI enablement initiatives by turning successful pilots into reusable patterns and shared infrastructure, and by helping quantify the value AI delivers across HQ functions. Technology Planning & Lifecycle Management
- Evaluate emerging technologies and vendors, making clear, business-grounded recommendations on adopt, hold, or retire, with AI capability and readiness as a first-class evaluation criterion.
- Lead rationalization of overlapping tools and platforms, quantifying cost, risk, and complexity trade-offs.
- Maintain architectural documentation and system-of-record diagrams that keep leadership and delivery teams aligned.
- Partner with IT, Security, and Finance on capacity, licensing, and total cost of ownership planning, including AI platform consumption and cost management.
- Contribute to Banyan's enterprise-wide technology strategy, working closely with the Head of IT, the Director, Security, and the Lead AI Architect as key partners.
- Translate architecture into business terms: communicate value, risk, and trade-of
