Mission:
Own the end-to-end design of Hydro One's Snowflake environment and ensure it scales securely and cost-effectively across the enterprise.
Key responsibilities:
Define the target-state data architecture, including account/warehouse topology, database and schema layout, and a promotion strategy across dev, test, and production environments.
Establish reusable design patterns, naming standards, and frameworks for ingestion, transformation, data modelling (e.g., medallion / data-vault), and secure data sharing.
Set guardrails for security, role-based access control (RBAC), masking, row-access policies, and data governance in partnership with security and governance teams.
Design for cost efficiency — warehouse sizing standards, auto-suspend/resume policies, resource monitors, and workload isolation.
Provide technical oversight, lead design reviews, and act as second-level support and escalation point for engineering teams.
Own the platform roadmap:
evaluate recent Snowflake features and define how and when Hydro One should adopt them.
Qualifications:
7+ years in data architecture/engineering
2+ years hands‑on Snowflake
Deep cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Expert SQL and dimensional/data‑vault modelling
Strong grasp of security, governance, and cost‑management frameworks
Experience leading enterprise data platform migrations.
SnowPro Advanced: Architect certification strongly preferred.
Snowflake architecture, data modelling, RBAC & data governance, cloud networking & storage, cost optimization, stakeholder leadership. Success metrics (first 6?12 months): Approved reference architecture in place, environment strategy operational, and documented standards adopted by all engineering teams.
This role operates under a hybrid work model and requires employees to work from the office a minimum of two days per week.
