Location: Calgary

Description GeologicAI is changing how the mining industry understands what's in the ground. We scan drill core with our own technology and provide data that helps mining companies make better decisions, faster. Our purpose-built core scanning trailers make this possible. Deployed to mine sites around the world, often in remote and demanding conditions, each one carries high-precision scanning instruments and onboard data systems. This role is about keeping that equipment performing at its best, not managing vehicles. As the Manager, Technical Operations (Internal Title: Manager, Fleet Performance), you'll lead the development of the Fleet Performance Group, bringing together existing maintenance, commissioning and operations improvement capabilities into a cohesive, high-performing team responsible for the reliability and performance of our global trailer fleet. Building on established systems, processes and technical expertise, you'll focus on strengthening team capabilities, clarifying roles and accountabilities, improving cross-functional collaboration and driving continuous improvement. You'll develop a culture of ownership, operational excellence and proactive problem-solving that enables the group to deliver consistent, scalable support to global operations. You'll have final accountability for trailer uptime, instrument configuration baselines, data processing pipeline integrity and KPI reporting across every deployed Production unit worldwide. You'll also own change management for Production assets, which means any change outside the approved MaintainX baseline needs your risk/benefit sign-off. A key early goal is taking routine support off our engineering subject matter experts: 50% on Day 1, growing to 80% within six months. Along the way, you'll track Engineering demand to confirm their time is actually being freed up. You'll represent Fleet Performance in monthly governance reviews and quarterly strategy sessions with Operations Leadership and the Director of Operations. You'll also work closely with Engineering, Geoscience, Data Science, Regional Managers and Project Managers to define shared ownership, escalation paths and cross-functional accountability.

What you'll love about you:

You've built operational functions before, and you know the first 90 days are about earning trust, not proving yourself right

You think in systems: when you see a problem, you fix the process, not just the instance

You're as comfortable talking engineering trade-offs with a field technician as you are presenting KPIs to a VP

You own the outcome even when the inputs are outside your control, and ambiguity doesn't slow you down

You understand that a fleet performance function lives or dies by the quality of its data, and you've built data discipline into teams before

Key responsibilities

Develop and get executive sign-off on the FPG charter, mandate, and operating model

Hire, onboard, and develop the team (10-15 FTE); grow to full org chart over 12-18 months

Establish MaintainX as the system of record: asset hierarchy, PM templates, work order standards, and change management workflow

Own all Production-asset change management decisions, including risk/benefit review and Engineering sign-off coordination where requiredDeliver the 50% to 80% SME support transfer milestones; report progress monthly to Operations Leadership

Define and maintain the escalation model (L1/L2/L3) and ensure FPG is executing to it

Drive the continuous improvement loop: FPG monitors, Engineering improves, R&D; innovates, FPG standardizes

Report fleet KPIs monthly including uptime, MTTR, PM compliance, repeat failure rate, QC pass rate, and Engineer capacity released

Travel requirements

Up to 30% domestic and international travel to client sites, regional field offices, and GeologicAI offices globally; higher in the first 6 months during team and process establishment

Skills, education, and experience Must have skills, education, and experience

10+ years in asset management, fleet operations, or operational engineering in an industrial, field-deployed, or instrumentation environment

Demonstrated experience building and leading cross-functional operational teams, not just managing established ones

Direct experience with CMMS or asset management platforms (MaintainX, SAP PM, IBM Maximo, or equivalent) as a system of record

Track record of driving measurable performance improvements against defined KPIs (uptime, MTTR, cost/hour, or similar)

Experience managing geographically distributed teams and field operations across multiple time zones

Strong understanding of change management, configuration control, and escalation model design

Assets

Experience in mining, mining services, oil & gas, industrial IoT, or precision instrumentation industries

Familiarity with data processing pipelines, sensor calibration, or geoscience data workflows

Experience with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) or similar reliability engineering frameworks

Prior experience managing a function during rapid organizational scaling (startup to scale-up transition)

Familiarity with systems integration concepts (connecting CMMS to monitoring platforms, ticketing tools, etc.)

PMP or equivalent project/program management certification
