Support meal preparation and service as a Kitchen Assistant with The Salvation Army, maintaining hygienic kitchen and dining areas. Work Saturday through Monday, 10am to 6:30pm.
This Kitchen Assistant supports the cook with preparing and serving meals. The position maintains food preparation areas, dining rooms, and storage spaces. It also requires secure food storage, food handling, dishwashing, inventory, and garbage removal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve meals under the cook's direction
- Clean kitchen, dining, preparation, and storage areas
- Complete inventory and safely store received goods
- Process dishes, utensils, and trays through the dishwasher
- Remove garbage and clean bins
Requirements:
- High school diploma required
- Basic cooking techniques and meal preparation knowledge
- Less than two years' recent institutional kitchen experience
- Current City of Ottawa approved Safe Food Handlers certification
- Clear Police Reference Check and CSA approved nonskid safety shoes
