Apply building construction expertise as a District Building Inspector with the City of Vancouver, inspecting projects and enforcing by-law requirements.
This temporary full time position covers buildings from foundation through completion. You will assess construction against approved plans, the Vancouver Building By-law, and related Sign and Zoning and Development By-laws. The work requires field judgment, report writing, and communication with contractors, owners, developers, tradespeople, and professionals.
Key Responsibilities: Inspect buildings throughout construction, alteration, and repair
Record inspection results in the POSSE system
Review infractions and discuss required corrections
Conduct re-inspections and follow up on violations




Prepare accurate inspection records and concise reports
Requirements: Grade 12 plus Building Technology training or approved apprenticeship
Considerable building construction experience and related supervisory experience
Knowledge of Vancouver Building By-law requirements
Ability to read construction drawings and analyze building sites
Police record check and clear driver’s abstract required
Use construction knowledge, field evaluation, and clear communication to support compliant building work across Vancouver.
