As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months. Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings. Hours of work and other related requirements will be scheduled according to business needs, and this may include special events on evenings, weekends and holidays.

Under the direction of the Facility Manager the Building Maintenance Person is responsible for delivering day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the facility, inside and out, and the surrounding grounds including the parking lot. This role ensures the building remains safe, functional, and in good condition by responding to work orders,



performing preventive maintenance tasks, and supporting facility operations.

The Maintenance

Person works on general building repair tasks, escalating complex system issues to the Building Operator or Facility Manager. In addition, this position will also assist the Building Operators, as well as perform independently work related to the daily operations and maintenance of the building. Working with the Building Operators, perform routine preventive maintenance (e.g. filter changes, lubrication, inspections, emergency lighting checks, etc.) Perform general building upkeep including patching, painting, hardware repairs, and fixture replacement Support operational needs such as furniture moves and workspace reconfiguration (where applicable) Inspect and maintain cleanliness and safety of mechanical rooms, workshops, and common areas Assist trades contractors and support the Building Operator with system maintenance Maintain tools, supplies, and inventory needed for routine maintenance tasks Previous maintenance experience with landscaping irrigation systems, painting, and light carpentry, preferably within a public facility and/or commercial building environment Basic knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is considered an asset Must have excellent customer service and communication skills Proficient in Outlook, Word and Excel Able to work on weekdays, weekends and holidays Valid class 5 BC driver’s license with a clean driving record Dental generous paid time off (vacation, sick, wellness days) Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification in the job posting.
