About OORA

OORA Café + Pilates is a new specialty coffee and wellness destination in Kerrisdale, Vancouver. We bring together exceptional coffee, thoughtful hospitality, and a welcoming community in a space designed to inspire connection and well-being.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Head Barista to help establish our coffee program, set high standards for beverage quality, and lead our barista team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who takes pride in their craft, enjoys mentoring others, and wants to help shape a growing brand from the ground up.

About the Role

As Head Barista, you will take the lead in daily café operations, ensuring consistently excellent coffee, efficient workflows, and outstanding customer experiences. You will help develop OORA’s coffee standards, train and support team members, and maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming café workplace.

We are looking for someone who combines strong technical coffee skills with leadership, reliability, and a genuine passion for hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare high-quality espresso-based beverages and maintain consistent drink standards.
- Dial in espresso and calibrate grinders daily to ensure optimal extraction and flavour.
- Maintain, clean, and care for espresso machines, grinders, and other brewing equipment.
- Train, coach, and support baristas in beverage preparation, workflow, and customer service.
- Lead daily coffee bar operations and coordinate tasks during busy periods.
- Ensure order accuracy, efficient service, and a consistently positive guest experience.
- Monitor coffee beans, milk, food items,



and other supplies; manage inventory, ordering, and waste.
- Support opening and closing procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling procedures.
- Help establish and improve café operating procedures as OORA grows.

Qualifications

- At least 2 years of barista experience, preferably in specialty coffee.
- Strong knowledge of espresso extraction, grinder calibration, milk steaming, and latte art.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, training, or mentoring experience is strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to lead by example and maintain high standards under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a dependable work ethic.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Chinese language skills are an asset, but not required.
- Valid FOODSAFE certification is an asset.
