We're seeking a Staff Writer to cover the timely, fast-moving stories in our brand’s core coverage areas of travel, events, food, drink, and culture across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

To be successful, you must be able to meet strict deadlines and work well under pressure. Our ideal candidate is able to perform accurate research and create compelling editorial content ranging from recent restriction announcements to how to watch the next major meteor shower.

Responsibilities:

- Keeping on top of current events and make daily/weekly pitches
- Write 3-6 (typically 250-400 words), informative, punchy news stories every day
- Creating and publishing social cards, stories, and other formats
- Working closely with the content team on strategizing content and coverage
- Conduct research on assigned topics.
- Write content according to custom briefs
- Editing your own and/or coworkers' writing




- Review other editor’s content for accuracy, sense, content, readability and making suggestions for improvements
- Update articles from our database with new information/formatting to ensure accuracy and latest brand conventions

Requirements:

- At least 2 years of writing experience for a local digital publisher.
- Strong understanding of Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley culture
- A fast news metabolism and an analytical mind. You jump on trending news topics quickly and are always looking for the next big story
- Excellent written communication skills
- The ability to make corrections based on notes from coworkers
- Fundamental understanding of Wordpress and SEO best practices

Pay: $19.00-$24.00 per hour
