Lead underground rock mechanics for WSP, applying numerical modelling and geotechnical design expertise to deep, high-stress mining projects internationally.
As Principal Rock Mechanics Engineer, you will provide senior technical leadership across studies, detailed design, and operating-mine support. Your work will cover underground geomechanics, rock mass characterization, ground support, and mining-induced seismicity. You will integrate geotechnical recommendations into mine layouts, infrastructure, sequencing, and operations.
Key Responsibilities: Lead rock mechanics studies for deep, high-stress, and mass-mining projects
Develop criteria for excavations, infrastructure, development, and production areas
Direct numerical modelling of stability, sequencing, subsidence, and ground response
Assess rockburst, seismicity, spalling, squeezing,
and brittle rock behaviour
Guide support systems, monitoring, rehabilitation, and Ground Control Management Plans
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in mining, geological, geotechnical, or civil engineering
Significant underground mining rock mechanics or geotechnical engineering experience
Expertise in deep, high-stress environments and ground-support design
Advanced FLAC3D or equivalent numerical modelling capability
Willingness to travel internationally to mines and client locations
Apply technical depth and leadership across underground geomechanics, modelling, ground support, and seismicity with WSP.
