The Superintendent will coordinate crews, equipment and daily work plans to meet production targets, achieve the required rock fragmentation and maintain established project deadlines. The role combines operational leadership, blast design review, quality control, client relationship management and business development.
The successful candidate will oversee East Coast operations, including the explosives plant, truck fleet and drill fleet, with support from CONSBEC’s home-base team in Ontario.
A 50-hour work week is expected, with additional hours as required by operational needs within the stated 50–66-hour weekly range.
All activities must be carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, environmental standards, site requirements and CONSBEC policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations Management: Direct daily drilling and blasting schedules to align with short- and long-term mine or project plans, production goals and target fragmentation. Coordinate crew and equipment assignments and adjust work plans as conditions change.
- Project Planning and Deadlines: Plan, monitor and coordinate work to meet established project deadlines. Identify potential delays, implement corrective actions and communicate changes to management and clients.
- Client Relationships and Business Development: Meet with prospective clients, identify new business opportunities, grow the current client base and maintain positive working relationships with existing clients.
- Plant and Fleet Oversight: Oversee the explosives plant, truck fleet and drill fleet.

- Blast Design and Optimization: Review and approve blast patterns, explosive quantities and timing sequences within assigned authority. Evaluate blast performance and recommend improvements to fragmentation, consistency and operational efficiency.
- Safety and Regulatory Compliance: Enforce compliance with applicable government regulations, environmental standards and company policies for explosives transportation, storage, handling and detonation. Verify that required site controls, inspections and documentation are in place.
- Team Leadership and Training: Supervise drillers, blasters and support crews. Coordinate safety meetings, communicate work expectations and partner with training departments to verify crew competency and required certifications.
- Cross-Department Coordination: Work with geology, survey, geotechnical and production loading teams, where applicable, to control ore dilution, manage ground conditions and ensure drill and blast patterns are cleared for safe access.
- Equipment and Quality Assurance: Inspect machinery performance and coordinate maintenance needs. Monitor drilling accuracy and hole deviation, ensure concerns are addressed before blasting, and review post-blast results and misfire concerns through established procedures. Use findings to improve future operations.
