LEAD OPERATOR – CREW LEADERSHIP, ROUTE OPERATIONS & FLEET MAINTENANCE

Contract Term: October 2026 – March 31, 2027

Hourly Rate: $28–$38 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 25 hours per week

This is a fixed-term seasonal contract running from October 2026 to March 31, 2027, with a minimum of 25 hours per week guaranteed. Additional hours may be required during snow events, with the possibility of continuing beyond the season depending on operational needs and available opportunities.

The Harlow Group provides residential and commercial snow and ice management services throughout Dunrobin, Constance Bay, Fitzroy Harbour, and surrounding areas.

We're looking for a reliable and experienced Lead Operator to help lead our winter operations. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting the crew, operating routes, and helping keep our fleet and equipment ready for service.

The Lead Operator will be the go-to person for other operators, helping answer questions, provide direction, coach team members, and support Operations throughout the season.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

CREW LEADERSHIP

- Act as the primary point of contact and go-to person for operators during regular operations and snow events.
- Provide direction, support, and coaching to crew members in the field.
- Help train and develop operators on equipment, routes, procedures, and expectations.
- Lead by example and promote safe, qualified, and efficient work practices.
- Communicate operational issues, crew concerns, and performance matters to Operations.

ROUTE OPERATIONS

- Operate tractors, trucks, snow removal equipment, and other vehicles as required.
- Complete assigned routes safely, efficiently, and to Harlow's standards.
- Help operators resolve route, equipment, or operational issues.
- Monitor route progress and communicate delays or concerns to Operations.




- Assist with crew and equipment deployment during snow events.

FLEET & EQUIPMENT

- Help ensure the fleet is operational, maintained, and ready for deployment.
- Perform routine equipment inspections, lubrication, fluid checks, and preventative maintenance.
- Identify and report mechanical issues, damage, leaks, or other equipment concerns.
- Assist with routine servicing, minor repairs, and equipment preparation.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and keep service areas organized.

OPERATIONS SUPPORT

- Work closely with Operations to help coordinate day-to-day winter operations.
- Help ensure crews have the equipment, information, and support needed to complete their work.
- Assist with operational planning, preparation, and problem-solving as required.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- Reliable, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to coach, support, and provide direction to other operators.
- Previous experience operating tractors, trucks, snow removal equipment, or heavy equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and equipment.
- Ability to identify and report equipment issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence is an asset.
- Ability to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays during snow events.

EXPERIENCE & ASSETS

- Previous lead hand, crew lead, supervisory, or team leadership experience is an asset.
- Snow removal, landscaping, construction, agriculture, fleet, or equipment experience is an asset.




- Experience with fleet maintenance, equipment servicing, or preventative maintenance is preferred.
- Knowledge of engines, hydraulics, fluids, and heavy equipment is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Part-time, field-based position working primarily outdoors.
- Minimum 25 hours per week guaranteed.
- Additional hours may be required during snow events.
- Work may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Work takes place in cold, wet, snowy, and potentially low-visibility conditions.
- Regular exposure to equipment, grease, oils, fluids, dirt, and snow.
