Love working with dogs? Ready to turn your experience into a professional dog training career?
Dogma Training is growing, and we’re looking for motivated, compassionate dog lovers with hands-on dog care experience who want to take the next step toward becoming professional dog trainers!
This isn’t a traditional dog daycare position. Our Day School programs focus on training, socialization, enrichment, and emotional wellbeing, helping dogs develop the skills they need to thrive.
We’ll provide the education, mentorship, and hands-on experience to help you build a career in dog training. You bring the experience, commitment, and willingness to learn!
Your Path to Becoming a Dog Trainer
At Dogma, we believe skilled dog training should be a rewarding, sustainable career built on education, experience, and ongoing development.
You’ll begin by gaining hands-on experience in our Day School programs, working alongside experienced, certified trainers while developing your practical skills and understanding of Dogma’s training methods and welfare standards.
After approximately 6 months of employment, eligible team members begin their DDT (Dogma Dog Trainer) certification through Dogma Academy, a comprehensive six-month professional education program funded by Dogma.
Enrollment is based on demonstrated competency, consistency, reliability, and readiness to take the next step in your professional development.
We provide the education, mentorship, and opportunities to grow. Your progress is based on your commitment to learning, applying your skills, and consistently meeting Dogma’s professional standards.
What You’ll Do
- Work with small groups of dogs in our structured, trainer-led Day School programs.
- Support training exercises that build life skills, confidence, and emotional regulation.
- Facilitate appropriate social interactions, enrichment activities, and rest.
- Learn to recognize canine communication, stress signals, and individual behavioural needs.
- Observe, document,
and communicate dogs’ progress with clients.
- Work alongside certified trainers to develop your handling, training, and behaviour knowledge.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment for dogs and people.
- Participate in ongoing education, mentorship, and professional development.
What We’re Looking For
Previous hands-on experience working with dogs is required. Formal dog training certification is not.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has previous professional or volunteer experience working with dogs, such as in daycare, shelters, rescue, grooming, boarding, or dog walking.
- Is truly interested in pursuing a career in professional dog training.
- Is committed to humane, reward-based training methods and animal welfare.
- Is patient, observant, and comfortable working with dogs of different breeds, sizes, and personalities.
- Has strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Is dependable, proactive, and receptive to feedback.
- Is motivated to complete formal education and apply what they learn.
- Is comfortable with the physical demands of an active, hands-on position.
Why Join Dogma?
- Employer-funded certification: Eligible team members begin their DDT certification after approximately 6 months of employment, based on demonstrated readiness and performance.
