Volunteer Social Media Manager & Content Creator

Organization: MFD
Type: Volunteer (remote-friendly)
Time commitment: Approx. 3-5 hours per week, including a weekly check-in

About Us
MFD is a volunteer-run group that shows up every week for our unhoused neighbors. We help vulnerable men remember their worth and we do this through creative expression.

Our work is built on dignity, consistency, and community, and our friend Dave is at the heart of it. We’re looking for someone to help tell that story online.

Visit: myfrienddave.ca for more information.

The Role
You’ll be the creative voice behind our social media, sharing who we serve, who we are, and what a meet up really looks like. We want people to feel the humanity in this work and see how they can be part of it.

What You’ll Do

- Create 3-6 posts per week for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok
- Schedule and post content using Later, our scheduling platform
- Meet with our founder each week to talk through the social media plan
- Tell the story of MFD: what we do, why we do it, and who Dave is
- Highlight our volunteers and the community we serve, always with respect and dignity
- Show what our weekly meet ups look like
- Share weekly numbers on how many folks we saw
- Write transparent, warm, accurate captions
- Respond to comments and messages in a timely, kind way
- Bring your own creative ideas (photo, video, graphics, storytelling, reels, anything goes)

What We’re Looking For

- Experience with social media, whether personal, professional, or for another group
- Strong writing and an eye for visual storytelling
- Comfort creating content with a phone and free tools like Canva
- Respect for the dignity and privacy of the people we serve, including getting consent before sharing anyone’s photo or story
- Reliability, since consistency matters more than perfection
- A heart for the unhoused community

Nice to Have (Not Required)

- Nonprofit or community organization experience
- Video editing skills
- A portfolio or examples of past work (links to personal accounts are fine)
- Experience with Later or other scheduling tools like Buffer or Meta Business Suite

What You’ll Get

- Creative freedom and real trust from our team
- A meaningful way to use your skills for your community
- An incredible community of support
- MFD merch: a hat and t-shirt (we’ll ship it to you if you’re outside Calgary)
- Opportunities to join any of our team trainings offered throughout the year
- If you’re local to Calgary: an invitation to our monthly team meetings
- A reference letter and portfolio-worthy work
- The chance to be part of something that matters

To Apply
Tell us briefly why this work matters to you, and share any examples of content you’ve created.

Pay: $1.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5.0 per week
