Job Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable and encouraging High School Math and Science Tutor to help students strengthen their understanding, build effective study habits, and gain confidence in their coursework. The tutor will provide individualized or small-group instruction tailored to students’ learning needs, covering subjects such as mathematics, science, and, when appropriate, computer science. Experience working with children is significant. Classroom experience and familiarity with special education are welcome.

Responsibilities

- Assess students’ current understanding and identify areas where they need support.
- Plan and deliver engaging tutoring sessions aligned with high school coursework and learning goals.
- Explain math and science concepts clearly, using examples, practice problems, and other appropriate learning materials.
- Support students with assignments, test preparation, study strategies, and problem-solving skills without completing work on their behalf.
- Adapt teaching approaches to students’ abilities, learning styles, and individual needs.
- Use computer skills and digital learning tools to prepare materials,



support instruction, and track student progress.
- Encourage questions, participation, and steady progress while maintaining a respectful and supportive learning environment.
- Communicate relevant progress and learning needs to students and, when appropriate, families or school staff.

Skills

- Strong knowledge of high school math and science concepts.
- Experience with tutoring, teaching, or providing academic support.
- Experience working with children or teenagers.
- Clear communication, patience, and the ability to explain complex ideas in an accessible way.
- Strong organization and preparation skills, with the ability to tailor lessons to student goals.
- Computer skills for using educational platforms and preparing digital learning materials.
- Classroom experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with special education strategies and adapting instruction to diverse learning needs is a plus.
- Knowledge of computer science is a plus.

Pay: $17.93-$18.00 per hour
