Project Manager - Commercial Masonry (Okanagan)
Company Overview
HS Masonry Inc. is a commercial masonry contractor building across Western Canada - brick, block, and stone on schools, hospitals, multi-family developments, and industrial projects. We're expanding into new markets and investing seriously in the technology and systems that will define how masonry gets built and managed over the next decade.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to Ownership, the Project Manager owns the full lifecycle of large commercial masonry projects, from award through close-out. That means planning, execution, financial performance, schedule adherence, quality control, and stakeholder communication on every assigned project.
This isn't a caretaker role. We're building a modern masonry contractor, one that runs on real data, digital takeoffs, and AI-assisted tools instead of paper and guesswork, and we want a PM who wants to help build that, not just operate inside it. On smaller projects, the PM also covers Project Coordinator duties.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Set and communicate project expectations, goals, and scope to the team at project outset
- Act as primary liaison with the GC, client, and key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
- Attend project meetings, represent HS Masonry professionally, and follow up on action items
- Review and approve shop drawings and RFIs; coordinate and communicate all site instructions and drawing changes to field staff
Schedule & Scope Control
- Understand and manage contractual agreements and scope of work for each project
- Develop, implement, and enforce the project schedule, with attention to critical path activities and milestones
- Identify and continuously mitigate project risk; escalate to ownership when required
- Submit quotations for additional work,
changes, and site instructions in a timely manner
Financial Management
- Manage and track all financial aspects of assigned projects
- Produce and submit accurate monthly progress draws on schedule
- Report regularly to Ownership on financial performance against budget
- Work with the accounting team to ensure costs, billing, and holdbacks are accurately tracked
Field Coordination & Quality
- Develop and implement site-specific document control, health & safety, and quality control plans with the Masonry Superintendent
- Manage project manpower planning with the Superintendent and Foreman
- Procure sub-trades, vendors, materials, and equipment per project documents and schedule
- Manage material delivery logistics, including hoisting plans where applicable
- Oversee sub-trades to ensure scope alignment with project documents, schedule, and quality standards
Technology & Modeling
- Work with digital takeoff and estimating software as a standard part of running a project, not a bolt-on
- Help lead HS Masonry's adoption of modeling software into project planning, coordination, and reporting
- Apply AI-assisted tools to improve tracking, reporting, and efficiency, and flag further opportunities to do so
Administration & Close-Out
- Maintain a complete, current drawing set; ensure all changes are communicated clearly to onsite staff
- Prepare operational and maintenance manuals and coordinate owner training at project close-out
- Provide direction to Project Coordinators where applicable
Qualifications
- 8-10 years of experience in the commercial masonry or construction industry
- Demonstrated experience managing large commercial construction projects, including full financial and schedule accountability
- Solid working knowledge of construction contracts, submittals, RFI processes, and progress billing
- Experience developing and implementing site-specific H&S; and QC plans
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with construction project management and digital takeoff software
- Genuine willingness to adopt modeling software and other new estimating/project tools as part of the role - we're actively bringing this into our toolbox and need a PM who wants to grow with it, not work around it
- Working knowledge of, or demonstrated willingness to adopt, AI-assisted tools for estimating, scheduling, and project reporting
- Formal training in masonry or formal education in project management considered an asset
- Valid driver's license; willingness to travel to project sites across Western Canada
Compensation & Structure
- Competitive base salary, commensurate with experience
- Performance-based bonus structure
- Vehicle allowance
- Standard 40-hour work week; hours may vary based on project requirements
- Direct reporting relationship to the Ownership Group - real access, real input on how projects and the company run
- A seat at the table as we modernize how masonry gets managed, not a fixed role in a fixed system
