Position Overview
At Junior Achievement Northern Alberta (JA), we believe every young person deserves the skills and confidence to build a successful future.
Each year, tens of thousands of students across Northern Alberta participate in JA programs and experiences that develop financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness skills. Behind these opportunities are passionate volunteers, dedicated educators, community partners, and a team committed to making meaningful learning experiences possible.
We're looking for an energetic, highly organized, and relationship-focused individual who loves bringing people together, creating memorable experiences, and making a difference in their community.
As our Student Events & Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, you'll help lead and grow a diverse portfolio of student experiences that connect young people with career possibilities, entrepreneurs, industry professionals, mentors, and community leaders.
You'll also play a central role in strengthening JA's volunteer community, ensuring volunteers feel welcomed, prepared, supported, appreciated, and inspired to return.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys both bringing exciting events to life and building the relationships that make them successful.
If you're someone who naturally connects with people, takes ownership of your work, and gets excited about turning ideas into meaningful experiences, we'd love to meet you.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Programs, you'll coordinate and deliver a growing portfolio of student events focused on career exploration, entrepreneurship, leadership, and financial empowerment.
These experiences include World of Choices, Her Financial Future, Ignite, Inspire and Awaken, Edmonton Startup Week activities, and other signature events and emerging opportunities.
You'll work closely with educators, volunteers, businesses, post-secondary institutions, and community organizations to create engaging experiences that help students discover new possibilities and connect their learning to the world beyond the classroom.
Equally important, you'll help strengthen JA's approach to volunteer engagement. Beyond recruiting volunteers, you'll focus on creating a positive and rewarding experience that encourages long-term participation. This includes improving onboarding, communication, recognition, feedback, and opportunities for volunteers to deepen their involvement with JA.
This role combines relationship-building, event planning, facilitation, volunteer stewardship, project coordination, and continuous improvement.
Some days you'll be coordinating event logistics and communicating with partners. Other days you'll be welcoming volunteers, facilitating student experiences, or representing JA in the community.
No two weeks will look exactly alike, and that's part of what makes this role exciting.
What You'll Do Here
Create Exceptional Student Experiences
- Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of a diverse portfolio of student events across Northern Alberta.
- Create engaging experiences that connect young people with professionals, entrepreneurs, mentors, career pathways, and real-world learning opportunities.
- Manage event planning from beginning to end, including school recruitment, registrations, speakers, volunteers, venues, schedules, materials, communications, and day-of execution.

- Work with the Director of Programs and colleagues to develop engaging experiences that respond to emerging student, educator, and community needs.
- Build relationships with schools, community organizations, employers, and post-secondary partners to expand participation and introduce students to diverse opportunities.
- Support the development of event planning systems, templates, timelines, and processes that allow successful experiences to be delivered consistently and efficiently.
- Help identify opportunities to reach students and communities who may face barriers to accessing career exploration, entrepreneurship,
and experiential learning opportunities.
- Contribute creative ideas and practical improvements that support the long-term growth and sustainability of JA's student events.
Build an Exceptional Volunteer Experience
- Help coordinate the volunteer journey across JA programs, from initial interest and onboarding through training, participation, recognition, and continued engagement.
- Build meaningful relationships with volunteers, understanding their interests, experiences, and motivations for getting involved.
- Work closely with program coordinators to understand volunteer needs and connect individuals with opportunities where they can make a meaningful contribution.
- Support volunteer recruitment through businesses, professional networks, community organizations, and existing partnerships.

Strengthen Volunteer Retention and Stewardship
- Help implement and continuously improve JA's volunteer engagement and stewardship strategy, with a strong focus on building lasting relationships and encouraging repeat participation.
- Develop thoughtful approaches to maintaining contact with volunteers throughout the year, not only when a volunteer opportunity needs to be filled.
- Gather meaningful feedback to understand what volunteers enjoyed, what challenges they encountered, and what could improve their experience.
- Use volunteer feedback and participation history to identify opportunities for improved communication, training, recognition, and ongoing engagement.
- Support personalized approaches to re-engaging past volunteers and introducing returning volunteers to new opportunities across JA programs.
- Work with corporate partners to create rewarding volunteer experiences that encourage continued employee participation.
- Help improve volunteer onboarding and administrative processes, reducing unnecessary barriers and making it easier for people to get involved.
- Collaborate with the Programs team to build a consistent, welcoming volunteer experience across JA's programs and events.
Keep Programs Organized and Moving Forward
- Maintain accurate volunteer, event, school, and partner records using JA's CRM and other program management tools.
- Track event registrations, volunteer participation, student reach, program outcomes, and feedback to support reporting and continuous improvement.
- Manage competing deadlines, event timelines, communications, and logistical details with strong attention to accuracy.
- Support reporting requirements for organizational priorities, grants, and community partnerships.
- Work collaboratively with the Programs team during busy delivery periods, special initiatives, and shared organizational priorities.
- Take ownership of assigned projects, communicate progress proactively, and identify opportunities to improve how we work.
In addition to these responsibilities, all JA employees participate in events and opportunities that support our broader mission and strengthen relationships with students, volunteers, educators, partners, and the community.

You're highly organized, but you're also flexible. When plans change, you stay calm, find solutions, and keep things moving.
You enjoy being part of a collaborative team, take pride in doing what you say you'll do, and aren't afraid to jump in when something needs attention.

You likely bring:
- Experience in event coordination, youth programming, volunteer engagement, community development, education, recreation, nonprofit programming, or a related field.

- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Confidence facilitating groups, speaking publicly, and creating welcoming experiences for diverse audiences.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, and digital communication tools, with a willingness to learn new systems.
- A genuine interest in youth development, mentorship, career exploration, and community impact.
- Robust attention to detail, reliable follow-through, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Adaptability, emotional intelligence, and a willingness to learn from feedback.
Experience in volunteer coordination, school partnerships, corporate engagement, event facilitation, or CRM systems such as Salesforce is an asset.
We value relevant experience gained through professional roles, community involvement, coaching, volunteering, and other leadership opportunities. We recognize that great candidates come from many different backgrounds.
You don't need to have done everything listed above. We're interested in people who bring the right combination of skills, initiative, curiosity, and enthusiasm for our mission.
